I'm 95% sure they really are 100% alpaca, which makes this a bargain!
I was skeptical of these because the price seemed low for 100% alpaca and I saw a multiple reviews saying that they knew alpaca and this is not alpaca. I saw three things being cited in particular: they are not as soft as they are used to, they are not as warm, and they are stretchier. But the price was so good I figured it was worth a shot. I am extremely pleasantly surprised that these appear to be 100% alpaca, as advertised, and in fact even better than I expected! In terms of softness, I also have a lot of alpaca stuff and alpaca socks are normally blends with synthetic fibers. Wool, even alpaca wool can be somewhat "scratchy," and synthetic fibers tend to make alpaca feel softer. Comparing these socks to a scarf I know to be 100% alpaca and socks that are 35% acrylic, the acrylic-blend socks are softer; this feels like the 100% alpaca scarf. These are not as warm and somewhat elastic because of the weave, but they are still very warm and I like the fact that they are somewhat breathable. There does appear to be a tiny amount of spandex or elastic at the cuff, but it's only along the very top rim and completely surrounded by pure alpaca. If you have literally none you need a garter to keep your socks up, but this is actually less spandex or elastic than most socks, which have a band about 3/8" thick.I love these and I ordered another set, but I also have a thing about synthetic fibers. I can put up with acrylic and rayon/vicose in blends, but I hate nylon and spandex and I'm allergic to polyester. The flipside of this is that these are going to wear out quicker, especially in the heel, and the elastic may wear out quicker as well. So if you want warmth and durability, you probably do want a blend, but I am very happy that these are comfortable, breathable, and seem to be as advertised, and they are surprisingly cheap as well!

Nice socks!
I was almost not going to buy these socks because of some of the negative reviews but I am glad I did. They are not super soft like baby alpaca fiber but still fairly soft and not scratchy. The pairs I receive did not say that there were any other fibers used another than alpaca. There are different grades of alpaca fiber… and these socks were not made from the softest fiber but why would you want socks that are so lofty and stretchy they don’t hold their shape? They are not too thick but still have that nice bulky look to them. I would say best as a sock for boots or heavy shoes…not dress shoes. They run a little large plus they stretch a little after you put them on. I wear a US 7.5 shoe and I bought the US 9-11.5 and they are a tiny bit loose. The alpaca fiber is also dyed not natural. I definitely would wash them in cool water and line dry…no hot automatic dryer!!! I think it would shrink them too much!I only gave 4 stars because it would have been nice to only buy a couple of pairs ( and choose the colors) instead of 4 pairs.

PERFECT FIT and SO WARM and COZY 10/10
* they arrived WAY faster than anticipated!!!!!* I didn't wash them before wearing (which is my normal policy with EVERYTHING) and they have been amazing! Whatever dyes you are using is absolutely non irritating!!* after cold feet for 2 weeks, I pulled them on as fast as i could when they arrived, and my feet have not been the least bit cold since! Super warm!!* I wear a wide-ish size 6, and these are the first socks in a long time that actually FIT correctly! (3-6) These fit similar to a standard large child sock, all around. Total PLUS in my opinion. Toe box is perfect, arch hugs, heal fits securely. They stay up! AND they scrunch nicely!!* Super cozy!****** 10/10 would totally recommend!!!! I'll be getting the other colors, cuz that's how I roll!

This is not 100% Alpaca, this isn't real wool of any kind
so, like many others have pointed out. these are falsely labeled. price too good to be true? that's because it is. does the brand know these aren't 100% all natural sourced from alpaca animal fiber (and i'm using that full wordage to explicitly state we're not talking about a man made product that's called "100% alpaca" to get around labeling claims, and that's important to note for later) probably. but we'll allow that manufacturers get up to all kinds of shenanigans these days to make money in an ever increasing belt cinching economy that demands more and more savings on production and manufacture so that the brand owners can make more and more profit for their shareholders. glory be, capitalism is king....ugh.to the sock! it was clear the instant i put these on that they were not alpaca. for starters, they're cold. alpaca is many things. it's not cold. i have cold feet. cursed cold feet. wools are one of the few things that can warm said feet. my feet are not warm in these socks. the second thing to note is that i'm horribly allergic to synthetic fibers, specifically polyester with acrylic being a close second. given the subdued rash i received on wearing these, i'm going to go with acrylic.on to the fiber testing! the quickest and easiest way to test a synthetic plastic fiber vs an all natural made out in the real world by nature fiber is the classic burn test. cut a few inches and set it on fire. so i unraveled one of the tops of the socks that had a particularly visible end cut and set it on fire. what i got was a 90/10 - ish mix of synthetic and all natural. yes, it charred and crumbled a tiny bit like all natural fibers will, but it also left a large hard melted bead that sealed the yarn end as a synthetic fiber will.now i'm running a bleach test. assuming my bleach is still good, in a few days time the all natural fiber should dissolve completely away leaving behind nothing but the synthetic fiber. update: bleach was still good! Real alpaca wool i bought from my local fiber shop digested away to nothing in 24 hrs, fibers from these socks have not digested one jot after a whole week. These are conclusively not alpaca wool fiber socks from a living animal.so, why is the brand calling this "100% alpaca" when it's clearly not. my guess, this falls into the word play that's been increasing in regularity over the past decade plus. it's now become very common for fiber manufacturers to make synthetic mimics and call them something that allows for complete obfuscation of the fact that they're synthetic. case example: i bought a shirt that was marketed as "100% sustainable silk" i in my ignorance purchased it on the assumption they were talking about for real silk... who wouldn't?! once the shirt arrived and i felt the "100% sustainable silk" it was clear it was 100% synthetic, and the actual garment label bore this out with "100% rayon." i contacted the brand to ask, "WTF?!" and they said it was their "100% sustainable silk" brand rayon. the rayon was called "100% sustainable silk" as its commercial name, and the company sold it at a price point that made real silk look budget friendly.

Not very comfortable
You can feel the ribbing underfoot in these socks. I bought them with the intention of using them for hiking but I will instead use them for around the house socks. They are warm and cozy and well made, just not very good for wearing inside of a shoe.

Bueno
