I looked at all the other possibilities on New SAT math on amazon but there were not that many and this one had the best reviews
I have bought this book to study for the new SAT. I have bought 4 books in total for now(1 for each section specifically, and a large general one for the SAT). The one I bought for the Math section was this one. I looked at all the other possibilities on New SAT math on amazon but there were not that many and this one had the best reviews out of the others. Now I understand why this is so good. First, it tells you the basics of what is going to be on the test. Later it gives you strategies on finding the answer with elimination and not fully solving. Later, there is a nice diagnostic test which does not really show how well you will do on the exam but rather tells you what parts of math you should study on. There is much more for me to write about the book as it is huge.

It is the right book to practice your skills.
I am a math teacher in a NJ high school. I have been teaching SAT Math prep classes for several years. It is usually hard to find a book with sufficient amount of questions. Most of the other books have pages of instruction but no more than 15-20 questions per unit. It is never enough to get ready for SAT. You always need more questions to practice your skills. I like this book because it is focused on different type of questions instead of lots of instruction. There are still instructions and worked examples in every section of the SAT Math.It is really for new SAT. New sections are added like Trigonometry. Questions are also classified as calculator and non-calculator. Cross-content questions are also available in the book.

I'm not convinced the author is a math expert.
Disappointing. I bought this for my grandson to study for the May test this year. I happen to be a math teacher and can tell you that the questions in each chapter don't even match the topic. For example, chapter 1 is titled Heart of Algebra. According to the College Board description for this topic, it should include linear equations, linear inequalities, systems of linear equations, and connections to graphs, again linear. The second question in the chapter is about functions and the variables are squared, which means they are not linear. This question belongs in the chapter called passport to advanced math which includes functions. Question 4 in this chapter also has squared variables. There are several more examples. I would estimate that more than 50% of the questions in this chapter belong in the passport to advanced math chapter. It really bothers me that the author of a math study guide wouldn't know this. There are also lots of number property questions which are very reminiscent of the old SAT, but are not likely to show up on the new redesigned SAT. There's even a geometry question in the heart of algebra section. I think, in general, this author did the same thing that so many of the other test prep companies did – they rushed to get something out fast and ended up just reusing a lot of their old problems and slapping the College Board language on the chapter titles. It's a shame, because I was hoping this book would be different than the typical Kaplan and Princeton Review type books that focus on test-taking tricks that are not supposed to work on this new SAT. It did turn out to be different, but just not very good.

A good math workbook
We bought this book as a gift to our nephew who needs a lot of practicing materials for the upcoming test. We thought the least we could help was finding a good math workbook for him. Since some of our friends highly recommended this book, we thought to give it a try. I have browsed through the workbook after receiving it, and found the workbook is well written and covers all the significant items in the math test. We are happy that we made a right choice and highly recommend it.

don't exclusively rely on this to improve your SAT math
The material in this book is extensive, but a lot of it is unnecessary. The authors of this book had the wrong impression about the new SAT -- many of the questions in here are old SAT and just will not show up on the new test, which can mislead students if this is their primary resource to study SAT math. I would recommend, if you are buying, not to rely exclusively on this book for math practice. There are 10 practice tests in the back, but they are nothing like what you are going to see on the real SAT (each test seems to have a certain topic area it's focusing on -- nothing like the real SAT, and there are too many questions that are simple straight up algebra).I have mixed feelings about the format of the practice questions -- answer explanations will be found right next to the questions on the page, which makes for a lot of awkward arm positioning to avoid seeing the answer. Also, answer explanations assume that you're at a high level of math ability because they're pretty vague and don't incorporate any strategy. All this being said, I thought that the Additional Topics in Math section (a lot of geometry) was good.

The no1 book you can purchase for the SAT math test!
The no1 book for SAT math preparation. A great revision of the needed theory along with A LOT of exercises to master your skills! the good think about this book, is that each chapter covers a particular theoretical part accompanied with numerous exercises of easy, medium and high difficulty level ! Personally, as an international student I found this book the most helpful of all I've purchased (and I have really purchased MANY)!Highly recommended !As regarding its price, it is low in comparison with its high quality!

An excellent SAT Practice book
I have a daughter in high school and I bought a couple SAT books for her. With this one we saw an actual improvement in scores over time because it has so many practice problems and is so extensive in its scope. I'm glad I bought it and I think she is much more prepared now than she was before using this book.

Obviously like many reviewers said
My daughter is using this book now for her SAT math. She said there are many error in this book and there are many questions that are not likely tested in new SAT (for example, too many geometry questions). I took a look and agreed with her. Obviously like many reviewers said, this book is rushed and just paste old SAT questions into this book. It is really a shame.
