Light, solid, effective thermometer.
Summary:A solid thermometer with some quirks. I'm not sure how non-contact thermometers work. Seems like magic, but also seems accurate.Function:This thermometer woks well, and quickly. There are some advanced settings such as showing the average temp, highest/lowest temp, screen settings, etc. But most of the time, I'll just be wanting to see the current temperature. In that case, it's point and shoot. I was able to point and shoot to one item after another. There are two lasers that show when you pull the trigger. Initially, I was putting one of the lasers on the item I wanted to measure. No. Put the center of the two lasers on the item. That's a little confusing...but I'm new to this type of tool. Maybe it's standard. The lighted screen is great. I expected this to have a non-lighted screen.Build:Seems sturdy enough. It was a bit difficult to figure out how to add batteries. The instructions baaaarely mention it, and only made sense once I figured out where to opening was. Ha.Accessories:The case that came with this thermometer will protect it from scrapes and dust in the tool bench, but not much else. It's a holster type case that can be word on your belt, but only if you remove your belt while you put it on, and as long as you don't mind probably losing the thermometer. That said...I'm still wear it to the office every day. :) The instructions lost a little bit in translation, but overall were understandable.

Nice Device with Unintelligible Manual and Limited Accuracy
This unit's specs (including up to 1200 degrees F and .1 degree resolution) compare favorably with Fluke devices selling for much more. It does not do contact measurements but otherwise has all the same functionality as the fluke 63 but incorporates features such as setting emissivity, alarms, etc of some of their even higher priced models. The unit itself feels high quality - maybe the snap in battery door could be improved but once closed should not be a problem. You won't make heads or tails out of it by reading the manual, which is in hard to read small print and might as well have been written in Chinese. Here are some of the concepts you need to know:1. The lasers are only used for aiming. Having two of them is great because the area being measured will lie between two visible light points. If the two laser points converge then you are measuring temp right on a very small area.2. Scan mode means the instrument is taking periodic readings while the trigger is held down. Once you let go of the trigger, you are in hold mode.3. You can turn the back light on and off while the unit is on by pressing the middle yellow button.4. The mode button can be used to change what appears on the display when you are in hold or scan mode. While in hold, the readings shown are for the active measurement you just took. After the unit turns off, pressing the trigger button goes immediately to scan and a newer measurement is made.5. After the unit turns off, just press the mode button to activate the display and access the prior 'scanned' measurement and aux values.6. While in 'hold', press the mode button down for 2 seconds to switch between F and C - the unit will beep.7. You can log readings but you need to specifically log each one. These readings can then be retrieved. I haven't tried it.I don't know how accurate it is, but my AcuRite home thermometer / hygrometer shows 61 ambient temperature (as well as heat pump thermostat). When I scanned the plastic housing of the Acurite device, it first read avg 60.2 with a high of 60.8 and min 59.3. A second measurement read avg 60, max 60.6 and min 59.0. Readings were 5 minutes apart. The emissivity setting was the default .95.For more guidance and well written reference material - look for and compare with other Fluke thermometers and manuals - I wouldn't be surprised if the hardware is shared in common - just a different user interface.P.S. I tried changing emmisivity to 1.0, the max, and readings went up marginally. Lowered emissivity and readings went lower. With the AcuRite displaying 61, I now also confirmed using a Black and Decker IR thermometer as well as a digital cooking thermometer that they all report 61 degrees. This Dr. device reports avg 59.7 with ems set at .95.OK, maybe I had higher expectations. The second reading showed a difference between max and min of 1.6 degrees. The specs call for +- 2%. So if the ambient temperature is really 61 F, reading could be off by 1.2 degrees - so avg reading of 59.7 just below spec. However, all the other thermometers agree at 61.The Decker only goes up to 300 degrees, so I will keep this unit to measure high temperature but otherwise I would be returning it.

Yes- Helpful in the kitchen
We are using for checking oven temperatures for baking Works well for this. Takes a little learning curve to know where in the oven to "point" it for best reading, but it is sure better than the over thermometers we have used and been disappointed with.Pretty straight forward in use, though if you push the wrong button (or wrong sequence), you might need the manual to get back to where you want to be. Overall, we find it helpful and have it in the drawer next to the stove. Other reviewers have used it for different functions, but we haven't had the need to go in those directions, thus can add nothing of importance to those aspects.

A perfect gift for your "Tool Man".
This digital thermometer was an instant hit for my two adult sons and my husband. It was a Christmas gift for each of them. They immediately started "shooting" everything in sight. An interesting one was taking the temperature of LED lights vs. regular light bulbs. Big difference! It was also interesting to take the temps of windows and cracks around windows. It tells you precisely where the cold air is coming from. We also used ours the other night when frying with a small amount of oil in a cast iron skillet. The oil wasn't deep enough for a conventional oil thermometer, so we used this tool. It seems to be amazingly accurate! Thanks Dr. Meter. This was a total winner and a good price as well.

Worked for just over a year then completely out of whack
This was a great unit, until the battery died. All I did was replace the battery and now the temp readings are way too high. I confirm by using my wall thermostat, it's reading over 15 degrees higher.I should be happy I got over a year out of this, and the price was low so I guess I shouldn't complain too much. Just frustrated that this device is only as good as it's first battery.

Appareil en plastique mais . . .
Me satisfait pleinement pour mon travail.
