If you work on computers or other electronic items, one of the most important tools you can have on your test bench is a high-quality anti-static mat to protect your gear’s sensitive electronic components from static electricity. I’ve used a number of different anti-static mats over the years. Some of them were good, some of them not so good. I’m always eager to try new out ones, and I received one of the best I’ve ever used last week for review: the Bertech 2′x3′ Anti-Static Mat Kit with Wrist Strap and Grounding Cord. When the package arrived, I opened up the box unrolled the mat. Although it was tightly rolled and the ambient temp quite chilly, it took just a few minutes for it to begin laying nice and flat on my test bench. I connected the “snap” end of the included grounding cord to the mat and the other end to the face plate screw on a nearby outlet. bertech-antistatic-mat-kitNext, I clipped the alligator clip on the end of the wire on the wrist strap to the other snap on the anti-static mat. Everything looked and worked great, although I would have preferred a wrist strap with a snap that matched the one on the mat instead of an alligator clip. At 2′x3′, this anti-static mat is the perfect size for the work area of my test bench. It easily holds a desktop PC (laid flat on its side) along with various tools, screws, and computer parts. Nothing is cramped and everything I need fits on there nicely. Note: If this mat happens to be too large for your particular workspace, you can easily cut it to fit. I was particularly impressed with the quality of the mat. It’s made from a thick sheet of tough anti-static vinyl that I believe should last for several years even with moderate to heavy use. Bottom line: I believe this Bertech 2′x3′ antistatic mat is a good value for the money.

Having lived with this mat for several months now, I can finally give an informed review. In short, these are an excellent product! No issues whatsoever. My mat has weathered spilled flux, alcohol, and a constant rain of molten solder blobs. It takes them all in stride. No complaints at all and I liked these enough to purchase two more as gifts for fellow techies. Pair these mats with a high-quality wrist, heel or ankle strap and you have a very capable antistatic workstation on a budget. Update after 2 years: This product still gets 5 stars even after 2 years of use. In fact, I just bought another as I’m expanding the test and debug bench. The only thing I would change in my comments is the mat can be melted if you persist on soldering directly on it. In fairness, this should be expected as any good tech knows you shouldnt be soldering directly on it anyway. For this use you need a silicone mat designed for that purpose. Still a really good value, and I’m pleased with its long-term performance. ZERO “zapped” components in 2 years says it works as intended!

Unlike my last antistatic mat, this one is made in the USA and the quality shows. It is a good size and the accessories are well made. It flattened itself out within around 12 hours. It does have that "beachball" smell, but that dissipates after a couple of weeks. Well worth the money.

Not a bad mat, price is reasonable and can be cut to size very easily if needed. Mine needed to be trimmed down from 24 to 18.25 inches. 1 pass with an x-acto #2 blade was all it took. The advertised surface resistivity of 10^8 – 10^9 is spot on with my meter that measured it at 10^9. The only downside is the vinyl isn’t very heat resistant like some other mats. I would not recommend doing any board soldering directly on it. Simply placing a board flat on the mat and using de-soldering braid on some holes burned through it about half a millimeter. Other mats I have used never had this problem. This one is probably best for disassembly/assembly of electronics. Overall not a bad general purpose mat.

Mat is very easy to assemble and easy to use. It has connects for the ground and wrist strap on both ends so you can use it left or right handed. I don’t really like using the receptacle screw as the ground connection point though and would have preferred it had the plug in type so there is no doubt the ground wire is touching the ground inside the receptacle Would recommend

This product is very high quality and very worth it. The material of the mat is flexible to be rolled up, yet maintains rigidity to hold its form and is heavy duty. The button snaps on opposing ends of this mat are placed securely with no distortion either. The wrist strap feels of high quality as well, with the strap being stretchable, adjustable, and there is a locking feature to prevent the strap from loosening so a solid contact is present (I have big wrists). They ditched the banana connector design for the strap’s alligator hook for a solid plug-in style hook so nothing will bend or wear over time. I was skepticle at first when I purchased this mat because of an old video review I saw online pointing out numerous flaws, but I can gladly say that Bertech definitely put a lot of effort into ramping up this design because not a single flaw was noticeable and I am very satisfied. Very much worth the money.

My 18 x 30 mat was near 3/4 short in both L & W. I a few others report short in reviews but didnt think much of it. Thinking I might try again I posted a question asking others what the actaul dimensions of their mats were and I got many responses of being short more than mine. Even at 1/2 inch thats significant square inches you are paying for and getting cheated out of. Considering the premium cost of this product from an "American" Company the mat should be exact or and 1/8 over not short buy what I and other received on a consistent basis. The mat itself was a nice product but it's no excuse for shorting the customer. I recommend you buy from someone else as I did. Amazon killed my first review, but knowing the truth is not a thing to hide from buyers. I ordered one from a competitor. I got a far larger size at a far cheaper price. So even if thats a bit short Im far ahead in the game. I wanted to buy American but even though they are a big company that I recognize from working in the tech industry the quality is pretty bad so I moved on. It's a real pity they are doing this. When you buy a liter bottle of soda you dont get shorted 10%, a pound of this or that is a lb, not a lb less 10%.

I have been modifying / assembling pcs for myself since the days of the 80286 and I have always cringed when I read 2how to"s telling readers to use the box a motherboard was sent in if you don't have a proper ESD work surface. DON'T DO THAT! A cardboard box is basicaly made from paper and paper is a static generaor. You are asking for trouble if you follow that advice. Get a properly grounded ESD mat if you want to put all the chances on your side when you work on an electronic device.

Un peu cher, mais semble de très bonne qualité. Le matériel est assez épais. La soudure colle un peu et quelques fois marque un peu. Je n'ai pas essayé de mettre le fer dessus pour voir à quelle température il résiste. De toute façon, je mets un tapis en silicone par-dessus pour faire de la soudure. * Pour tester la performance du tapis, ceci prend un Tera ohmmètre puisqu'un bon tapis indiquera une résistance comprise entre 1 million et 10 milliards d'ohms. Un simple DDM (multimètre) ne pourra pas lire cette valeur.
