CZYY Monster Standee Bases, 27 Plastic Hex Bases with HP Dials

A great improvement over the original game equipment.

Wish they came in more colors - but other than that so glad we added them to our game!

I originally bought the wooden ones, but they were way too loose. If you so much as touched them, the health moved. Also the standees would fall out way too easy. So, I ended up buying these. They work a lot better, they hold the health marker where it should be and the cards don't fall out. I will be using these for many games to come. I did touch up the numbers with a white paint pen, which I believe is necessary. Also they work great for one monster condition, but when there are two, the tokens tend to fall out.

These work great for keeping track of HP in Gloomhaven. The figures fit into the stands well without being over tight. The dial has enough stiffness to keep it in place when doing movement, but are still easy enough to move for HP updates. The hex size is exactly the same size as the game board hexes, so the stands will bump into each other when clustered together. My biggest complaint is the choice of colors. They should be white and yellow to match the colors used in the game for normal and elite enemies. Instead these are black and red. Also, the numbers can be difficult to read. The product description recommends coloring them with a marker. A sharpie works well on the red stands, but you'll need to use a paint or metallic marker on the black ones. Using a paint brush is way too difficult and messy.

These make our gameplay so much quicker and easier than trying to manage dozens of tiny HP chits, and HP can be managed by any player instead of whoever has the monster stats. We also use them for summons, NPCs or anything else that can take damage. You can also fit a status token in the stands to indicate which enemies are strengthened, poisoned, etc. You can fit two status effects but they won't be as secure and might slip out, but hopefully if you're racking up status effects you'll get the enemy off the map sooner than later. Some older reviews mention the dials spinning too freely but it seems this has been fixed; you can move enemies around holding only the cardboard and we've never had a problem with the dial moving. The numbers are easy to read and the stands themselves have a decent weight and no rough edges. And perhaps most importantly they take up very little extra room in the box!

The stands are great for tracking the HP of the monsters and really sped up the game. It is a tad difficult to tell where exactly the pointer is showing if you aren't exact with your adjustments, but it's not a big deal in the long run.

My group used the wooden bases that you build yourself while playing Jaws of the Lion. I decided to pick these up when we started our Frosthaven campaign, and they’re so much easier to use. Snug standees, smooth dials, great value, and very visible. Highly recommend, just ordered a second box!

These bases are perfectly sized and smooth in operation. I was expecting them to be difficult to use, but they work great and make monster hp so much easier to keep track of.
