I would give a qualified "yes". Your usage is exactly why I purchased the cord locks and they work fine ... assuming you are not carrying anything in your pockets (such as cell phones, wallets or a heavy keychain). I am also noticing that the drawstring is fraying.

Are the springs stainless steel?

Are the springs stainless steel? Well, I cannot say for 100%, but I expect they ARE stainless. Since I use them primarily for keeping my gym shorts up (lots of perspiration and regular laundering), I can say there is zero corrosion on the spring after more than a year of service. If those springs can survive my sweat and laundry, they can survive anything. Best!
