Will Rubber Care make my tires shiny?

Accepted Answer

No. It leaves a deep, new rubber look, matte satin, and dry to the touch. If you want wet gloss, buy someone else's product.

Sidewalls or tread?

Sidewalls. Keep it off the tread, the part that contacts the road. On motorcycles and bicycles, treat that as a hard rule, since the contact patch is small. On cars and trucks, just stay off the tread.

What is in it?

A water based tripolymer with SiO2 ceramic and a UV blocker. No petroleum solvents. Petroleum dressings are hard on rubber and speed up the drying and cracking you are trying to prevent.

Does Rubber Care clean the tire too, or do I need something else?

Rubber Care conditions and protects. It is not a cleaner. Clean the tire first with a high-quality cleaner like Tire Soap or Wash ALL, let it dry, then apply Rubber Care.

I have been using a wet shiny tire product for years. Do I need to strip the buildup off first?

Tire Soap is all you need. Scrub thoroughly and rinse, wet or waterless. Once the tire is clean and dry, Rubber Care can penetrate the rubber the way it is supposed to. No stripper, no acid, no solvent.

What causes brown tires?

Tire manufacturers build antiozonants into the rubber to protect it from ozone and cracking. Those compounds migrate to the surface by design, and when they oxidize, they turn brown. It is the rubber protecting itself.

Can tire browning be stopped for good?

Accepted Answer

No, it is managed rather than cured. It is not a defect. Keep the tire clean with Tire Soap, condition it with Rubber Care to slow the migration, and you'll stay ahead of it.

Does it work on brand-new tires?

Yes. New tires need extra scrubbing to strip off release agents/coatings; start with tire soap and a stiff brush. They'll also brown more early on since the antiozonant is fresh and blooms heavily; this fades as the tire ages.

What sizes does it come in, and how far does a bottle go?

Sixteen ounces, thirty-two ounces, and one gallon. About half an ounce on an average car tire, so sixteen ounces gives you roughly eight full treatments on a four-tire vehicle. Truck tires take more.

What about off-road tires with aggressive knobby sidewalls?

Use a brush to work it into the sidewall lettering and sidewall blocks. To remove the excess, scrub the recesses with a wet brush and plain water, dry what you can reach, and let the rest air-dry.

What about RV slide out seals?

One of the better uses for it. Slide seals dry out and crack, and replacing them is not cheap. Clean them, let them dry, apply Rubber Care, soak them, then use a damp towel and a dry towel.

Can I use Rubber Care inside the vehicle, on the dash or vinyl seats?

Yes. Follow the directions exactly as you would on a tire, including the damp towel and dry towel. For routine interior cleaning and protection, we recommend Wash Wax All instead.

Is Rubber Care safe on real leather?

Yes, on finished leather. Same directions: spray, soak, damp towel, dry towel. Do not use it on suede or rough-out leather. Those absorb the product instead of holding it on the surface.

The bigger the size, the better the price per ounce. Sixteen ounces suit one car. If you have an RV, the gallon is the sensible buy, covering six large tires plus slide seals plus a rubber roof.

Will freezing ruin it? What is the shelf life?

Accepted Answer

Store it above freezing, but not because a freeze ruins it. Most of our products survive a couple of freeze cycles with no effect. The concern is the bottle cracking and leaking. Shelf life is three years.
