What water resistance rating does the flame boss wifi thermometer have?

We have not performed the necessary testing to legally acquire either a "waterproof" or "water-resistant" designation for our components. However, our controllers and WiFi Thermometer have performed without issue when exposed to normal weather conditions.

If extreme weather conditions are expected or experienced during cooks, we have had users place a non-metallic bowl turned upside-down over our controllers or thermometer or used something as simple as a zip-lock bag to protect them from downpours.

If I download the app, will this work anywhere, or just when I am in range of my home network?

Hi Mike, our FBT is WiFi-enabled so if it is connected to your home WiFi you will be able to view and monitor your temperatures from anywhere on the Flame Boss mobile app on your smart device.

Can this control the fb 400 fan unit instead of needing the purchase a fb 500 unit?

Hi David, no, the Flame Boss WiFi Thermometer only reads temperatures and does not control the FB400 fan unit. Both our FB400 and FB500 are charcoal smoker controllers and control the grill or smoker's pit temperature and monitors the meat temperature. The FB400 is a smoker controller with the blower fan integrated with the control module. The FB500 has a separate blower that plugs into a jack specifically designed to control the blower fan. The FB WIFi Thermometer only has jacks to monitor temperature probes and no jacks to control a blower fan.

Hi Joe, all the Flame Boss temperature probes are industrial-duty platinum resistance thermometer probes rated to 475˚F, and include a 6 ft. stainless steel shielding.
