Excellent
I love the Beam N Read reading light! I had one for years, and it was my go-to light for traveling, reading & knitting. My daughter had decorated it with stars & unicorn stickers, so it must have been at least 10 years old, and I was sad because I accidentally left it behind in a hotel. Because my Beam N Read was so old, and I've never seen one for sale in a bookstore, I was afraid they didn't make them anymore. Not so! I was happy to see that they are available at Amazon so I ordered a new one right away! This reading light hangs around your neck when you're sitting and directs the light onto your book or project. The light flips up & the angle is adjustable. To turn it off you simply flip the light down. There is no on/off switch. Open = On, Closed = Off. The Beam N Read is especially nice if you do needlework, because you can shine the light exactly where it's needed & your hands are free to work on your project. When you're reading in bed the Beam N Read just lies on your chest & illuminates the entire page. Unlike regular book lights, it doesn't add any weight to the book you're reading. You can use the neck strap and let the light shine toward the floor if you need to navigate unknown places (hotel rooms?) at night. Because it's hands-free, you can rummage in your suitcase in the dark without waking others. This Beam N Read is the handiest reading/project/travel light I've ever owned. It takes standard AAA batteries, and they last a long time. Did I mention it also comes with a spare bulb? I definitely recommend this product to you.

Came with a red lens cap
For the price it's ok but the picture shows a clear lens cap when the one I got came with a red lens cap. Not sure yet if I will keep it.

Very disappointed in Performance
Would give this product no stars if I could, I ordered the 6 LED light as a crafter and thought why no throw this one in the cart as well. It came out of the box with a broken clip to adjust the strap, OK, not a hugh deal. But, after putting the batteries in realized that it put out almost no light at all. Tried taking the red filter off and it still wasn't bright enough to be of any use. Tried to return and realized it would cost more than it was worth. Very disappointed since the other light was just as described. Unable to find a way to send direct seller feedback and figured this was the only other way to let them know I feel the product is not as described.

Works fine, just not better than any other product available
I was hoping this would be a good alternative to the more traditional book lights that clip on with an LED light. I dislike those book lights because they are way too bright and light up the entire room at night. This pretty much did the same thing. My search for the perfect book light continues... If anyone has any suggestions, please respond to this posting. Thanks!

Light is good - lens is almost good
I use it for knitting when I'm not at home. Works well. The lens isn't as clear as glass, of course.

Worth it !
Because of an eye condition I have to have a lot of direct light on my reading matter to be able to focus, but if its too bright I then can't focus either. If you've ever tried reading a bright white paper in the direct sunlight, you'll know what I mean. This little gem adds just the right amount of extra light for me to read in a most conditions and I love it!It is a reliable hands free light in the dark as well, like an old style flashlight type of light (for those of us who remember flashlights that didn't use LED lights!) If you want it to be super bright in the dark, I would use the larger version.I was concerned that the batteries would make it uncomfortable to wear but the light balances nicely and the weight is not an issue at all for me. The length of the strap adjusts, and the light is angled to the book perfectly for me.One more thing - it was great when I was reading. I had to get up and go outside with my dog and forgot I had this on (remember I said it was comfy?) This made a nice little hands free light illuminating the area where I was walking the dog.I would also recommend this or the bigger version to anyone who does any handiwork in the evenings as its really just enough extra light to see what you are doing, better.I thought about buying several of these as gifts for friends after using it and also thought about ordering one of the bigger ones so I could try it out.

The string is too short and plastic is too weak
I keep this in my bag for reading on a bus while commuting. I felt the string is a little too tight, but it was OK. It was not long time ago when I got this, but plastic parts to hold the string broke recently and now I have to hold this with one hand while I read. It's cheaply made and not useful.
