Don't Bother
This is an OK kneeboard, but not worth the additional $20 your paying for it. The product picture is very misleading. I purchased this more expensive board because of the promise of padding. If you look at the picture, it looks like half of the bottom is padded; NOT SO. The strap in the picture hides the fact that the "padding" is two tiny strips (2 mm thick and 2.5 cm [1 inch]) wide. They are self adhesive pads, and when I received the item, one of the pads was already peeling! Basically, what I paid for (over one of the much less expensive boards) was the addition of an extra pencil holder. NOT WORTH IT.Would not buy again, would definitely not recommend!!!

Works Very Well
I didn't buy mine from Amazon; I bought it from Sporty's Pilot Shop. I love the straps because they easily fit comfortably around my fat thigh, and the buckle is wonderful. It's wonderful because it latches easily and firmly with an audible "click," and stays latched until I choose to unlatch it. And when I want to unlatch it, it is a cinch to do so, and can be done with just one hand. The writing surface is just under 5 inches wide (maybe about 4.95 inches) and just over 8.5 inches top to bottom. "SM" said his unit did not have a lower clip, but mine certainly has both a lower and, more importantly for me, an upper clip. The upper clip has a visible coil (not used for keeping the clip closed) which is there so you can slide your pencil or pen through it for very fast and easy access. It's much better than keeping my pencil in my mouth while I fly! Both upper and lower clips have good, tight, springs to keep your chart or other paper snugly in place, and the upper clip can accommodate almost half an inch of papers or a chart folded to the part you want to see. My unit has the same two strips of "padding" on the part that comes in contact with my thigh. That padding isn't the greatest, but I've never felt uncomfortable wearing the clipboard because I always wear long pants. I can't say if the clipboard would be comfortable if it was touching your bare flesh, but if you like to wear shorts when you fly, just take a small piece of cloth to sandwich between the clipboard and your bare thigh. The only drawback, which is not a problem for me but may be a problem for you, is that it is a single-surface clipboard, not designed to hold an electronic tablet like an iPad. Also, there are no pockets for extra stuff. I've been a pilot since 1986, and this is by far the best kneeboard I've ever owned. For me it is well worth the money I paid to Sporty's.

Not as advertised!
Picture does not represent item received.Bottom paperclip not installed at all . No signs it ever intended to be installed or manufactured that way however picture clearly demonstrates that it does have one .That was one of the main reasons for the purchase .Using it because I paid 50 $ for it however, do not see it lasting because a it's not that durable .
