Geoffrey Beene Men's Dress Belt

The Geoffrey Beene Mens Dress belt arrived quickly and looks nice. Unfortunately, I am somewhat disappointed in what I percieve as a lower quality belt than I had expected. I was hoping for a single leather piece and this belt appears to be just another belt made of a thin leather front and back sewn around some manmade stuffing product (cardboard or fiber). I was wanting an inexpensive one piece that would stand up to several years of daily wear and I am just not sure this will last that long, as it feels lightweight and flimsy, which is the one true downside of buying online. All that aside, it does look nice, with a soft feel and an attractive design and buckle. So far it's been less than a month with no obvious signs of tearing or separating, which is as it should be. As it was relatively inexpensive, I do not plan on returning it, though if I did, I would buy my next belt from a Western Outfitter shop. I have recently discovered those shops routinely sell hardy leather belts in both working and dress styles. I will repost on how long theis Geoffrey Beene belt lasts.

Back in college I bought a Geoffrey Beene belt from Filene's that I LOVED, similar price point and excellent quality. Looked remarkably similar to this, at least in the picture.Alas, Filene's has gone out of business or purchased by Macy's or something, and Geoffrey Beene apparently now sells cheap belts at the same $20-$30 price point. This is not real leather, the buckle feels flimsy, and the appearance is cheap looking in person. You can get similar quality for $10 at a department store.Fortunately Amazon has a great return policy on clothing and accessories, I promptly sent this back and will never buy a belt online again.

Apparently I received a different belt than the other reviewer. I don't know how else to account for the discrepancy between his assessment and mine.I bought this four months ago to wear to my daughter's wedding. I was prepared to pay more, but this belt best met my requirements. I wanted something that would go with fairly dressy formal wear and have a buckle that was elegant but not obtrusive. My girl friend was very approving the first time she saw the belt, and the belt completed my ensemble with style. I have also been wearing it for less formal occasions ever since.I've been buying dress belts for the past 35 years. The quality of this belt is at least as good as anything else I have ever owned, and some of those other belts were suitable for the days when I was meeting with bankers and managing hundreds of millions of dollars.The belt is constructed of a fine-grain glossy black leather that looks to be of high quality to me. The stitching is precise and unobtrusive. The buckle has a muted smokey look that lets it fit in well with various styles of dress. The throwaway comment in the other review about "cardboard" has, so far as I can tell, no basis in fact.I'm sure you can find much pricier belts, particularly if you're willing to pay a premium for a particular designer's name. But if you just want a good, solid dress belt for weddings and meetings with your bankers and the board, this belt will do very nicely.

I looked for a few belts on other websites, & suit stores, like JosABanks, Macy's Men, & Men'sWarehouse, and I was amazed by the prices. I have to say this is a great men's suit or mens dress slack belt. Its a nice black, Do Order One Size Bigger than your pant size, *(I read that on another review & it was So True) Hubby was a little offended but when I explained & he tried it on, you can totally see why. I only wish this came in brown, if it does I am definitely ordering it.

garbage quality, wrips quickly

Product is cheap. There is a very thin coating of material that looks like leather on surface. When you fasten the buckle and it rubs against the belt, the material peels off & the cardboard inside shows. This happened after only a couple of times using the belt.

Nice belt - lifespan shorter than other belts out there.
