I finally decided it was time to retire the old golf towel and buy an actual gun cleaning mat. I opted for the Long Gun mat as it can be used for shotguns, rifles AND hand guns. I like the idea of having the little trays for small parts, but the winner is the magnetic one. I actually wish that all of the trays were magnetic as the trays help keep the small parts organized. The size allows you to do whatever cleaning/maintenance is needed and if anything it might be a little too big, but is that really a problem??? the mat feels like it's a quality mat that is thin but not too thin and think but not too thick. It rolls up easily after use and cleaning. My only regret was not buying this mat years ago!

It’s a thin mat but absorbs liquids very well. It fills a 48” work bench nicely. The trays come in very handy. It provides very good protection. Highly versatile cleaning mat

I do not use the long guns often but I use my pistols 2 to 3 times per week and I like to clean them all at the same time once a month. I have a Glock mat that is pretty much nothing more than an over-sized mouse pad and I once folded it and rested something heavy on top of it so it has a bump that will not go away and maybe I am too picky but that bothers me a lot especially if I rest a spring on it and it starts rolling away. When I saw this mat, I was excited because I can take apart 3 or 4 pistols at the same time and clean similar parts in order like the barrels first the slides next and so on. Today, I received this mat and I was going to put it to use right away as I needed to clean the pistols but didn't since I was waiting for it to be delivered but unfortunately I was fairly disappointed as soon as I took it out of the box. The mat may have been used/returned by another customer because it was rolled in 2 rolls (rolled from both sides) and then boxed with a fold in the center which caused it to have a bump just like the bump on my Glock mat that annoys the heck out of me. I rated it at 3 stars because of the unnecessary bump "defect" and because the mat is the same type of mouse pad that the Glock mat is and if you spray parts with solvent, it will absorb the solvent unless immediately wiped clean. If it soaks the solvents, when you roll it back up for storage, the solvents will be transferred to the bottom of the mat and that will defeat the purpose of protecting the table (the bottom is rubber but you will have to wipe it every time you unroll it). Also, although I carefully read the top question in the Q/A section where everyone says that it will lay flat but the end of the mat that I received curls up. That is not a deal breaker for me but for the record, it curls up at the end. In conclusion, it is not a bad mat to do your cleaning on it but I would prefer a mat that is rubber and does not absorb the stuff I use to clean the pistols with. This type of mat, forces me to put a cloth on it where I can spray some parts so I can protect the mat from liquids and that defeats the purpose of the "cleaning mat". As far as the tray goes, in my case, I could not care less about it. I will be laying the pistol parts and the cleaning supplies on the mat, the tray is just there to help roll it back up and nothing else. ███ UPDATE 10/1/2018 - I requested a replacement from Amazon. The new Mat came and although it is not perfectly flat, it does not have bump big enough to be a problem. The new one also came rolled the opposite way and the end is trying to curl up downwards so it stays flat. It is great to be able to clean 4 or 5 pistols at the same time so I am happy with it. I have a 17x12 rubber mat that I found at a local store and I use that to apply cleaning chemicals so I don't get it soaked. ███

This mat is great, it rolls up really nice and then when you need to use it just un-roll and it lies flat with no issues what-so -ever. That alone is a major win as so many other mats would get the memory of being rolled up and not lie flat when time to use. Then in addition to that you have the tray on the end that holds tools or whatever you need which is amazing as it makes things much more organized and one of the trays has a magnetic which is another added benefit as it holds things in place. The mat is the perfect thickness, cleans up really easily and it a great size overall, not too small or too big! I would highly recommend if you are looking for a good gun cleaning mat or repair mat, you will not be disappointed if you purchase one that is for sure as the cost to what you get is an amazing value.

Great size to fit small and larger firearms, the oil resistance is there and leaves no marks of CLP on it at all. Nice little tray on the right, with a strong magnet for small pins, screws or keys for your trigger locks. I like the reminder on the top left hand side, reminding you about clearing your firearms before cleaning. Minor down side is I wish it came with a bag for storage/travel, I kept the box to store it in for now.

Utilsé pour protéger la surface de mon érabli lors du démontage, nettoyage et entretien d'armes longues. C'est la référence des protections pour cet usage. Très pratique.

As described, fine for cleaning gun on to save damaging it and magnetic tray is handy. Could be a bit thicker and still won't sit completely flat due to being folded in the packaging.
