I had purchased a used StarSense align which had a serial RS232 port on the handset (whereas new versions have USB). My AVX mount is fitted with SkyPortal and I had read that the latest firmware would allow updates of the older StarSense handset over wifi....but as my handset was not up-to-date I had to load the latest version using this USB to serial cable. So plugged in, switched the updater to cable, and updated. Worked perfectly. Now I have done the update the handset will actually appear over wifi so in theory I don't need this cable any more. But to may be useful if I opt to add on a scope mounted computer like ASIair etc so keeping it as it works well and may be useful.

The cable allows me to use my Fire tablet with my Celestron telescope. An absolute winner and good quality. I needed an extra application from the Play Store to make it all work, no problem because it's free.

It’s a bit expensive for what it is but if you want to connect your LCM to a computer then a cable like this this is what you need. Obviously it’ll work with other goto mounts but I’ve only tried with my old LCM.

I bought this to update a NexStar hand controller.

Bought this to connect my Laptop to a computerised telescope. The laptop detected the cable and telescope and I was able to control the telescope over several weeks. Then one day it failed to see the telescope. I tried on other laptops and had same problem. I borrowed a Usb to Rs232 and a Rs232 to rj9 cable from a friend and they connected without a problem and I was able to control the telescope. So ordered the two separate cables and gave to dump this one. Too late for a Straight refund.

Took delivery of this late August, tried it out and it worked OK. I used it 3 or 4 times before it began to fail intermittently. On inspection, I can see that the cable at the RJ9 end (the jack resembling a telephone jack) has been crimped incorrectly, so that failure was inevitable sooner rather than later. It has been crimped ( i.e attached by) the inner cables, whereas it should be crimped by the (much thicker) outer casing.When I looked up the order to return it as defective, there is no option to do so. Avoid.
