Feel free to love you cat again...
My husband and I bought this as a last resort method to try to keep Lola off our recently reupholstered vintage red couches (keep in mind that the reason we had to reupholster in the first place is that Lola made it her mission to pee on EVERY ONE of our four-piece furniture set). I'm unclear as to how the peeing Olympics began, but I'm guessing it's partly my ignorance in proper cat-training techniques and partly Lola being a cat and making things smell "familiar" to her (and gag-inducing to me).I read the reviews and decided it was worth giving it a try. I figured if we were spending the money to get our couches reupholstered, we might as well try as best we could to make sure that investment lasted. I bought the Large Scat Mat and was really excited to try it out once it arrived, but was disappointed to find out that the battery pack wasn't included with my purchase.I had to purchase it separately and directly from the manufacturer, but I got very helpful and friendly customer service from them and the battery pack arrived on time.I now realize that I made the mistake of buying the extension mat and not the mat plus battery pack, but I'm including this just so that first-time buyers are careful to order the mat plus the battery and not just the extension mat.I was worried that this wasn't a humane approach to training, but decided to try the thing out myself before trying it on Lola. I used the same setting I'd use for Lola to test (Low) and pressed my hand to the mat. It's a definite shock but it's not at all painful. It's the same feeling you'd get if you got shocked after sliding around on a carpet while wearing socks. In short it was uncomfortable and gave you a good scare, but it was not at all painful. The first time we tried it on Lola she came up to the mat we'd placed over her favorite couch to sniff it out, proceeded to try to curl up on the mat and then JUMPED RIGHT OFF! She tried it a second time to make sure it wasn't a freak occurrence and JUMPED RIGHT OFF again! She hasn't come anywhere near any piece of furniture we put the mat on. Needless to say, my couches are alive, my nostrils aren't offended at the smell of my house, and Lola learned that couches are not potties in two quick shocks!!! I am a happy customer and I have recommended this product to many people I know who love their pets and are looking for something that is a cost effective and time-saving training aid.

Best.Invention.Ever works like a charm!
Best deterrent and keeping your pets from areas and saving furniture from being an accidental rest stop area. I already have 6 of these and use the extension to make customize lenght as you can move the power device from one mat to another. I like that about these products.Warning: there are 3 settings— low, med and high. I have 4 yorkies and one of them are notorious for trying to jump it or make a quick run for it... just because he is a rebel and a brat. So I set it at Medium and in areas like Christmas trees, HIGH all the way. All family members have had the joy of getting shocked and not sure if its more the fact it signals the “ek! The mat!” Or is it really painful. It’s definitely something you feel scared to touch. The dogs obey the boundaries, no doubt. Most successful story was when we got our 3rd yorkie named Jumpy, he was a pain in the butt as his name dictates, he can jump super high. He drove me nuts during night when all is asleep, instead of going straight out the doggie door, he would jump on the dining table and use my decorative vase of flowers as his personal toilet. No matter how we shoved the chairs in or out, he was conniving and 2nd round and tubs of bleach later, scatmat was placed on the table and I purposely set the stage, unbeknownst to his daddy (my hubby) coz he would not let his baby be hurt but it had to stop.Short story, 2am and a sharp yip and a guilty dog was found. He never again step foot on our table. Husband chewed me out because he listed all the what ifs... but 5 years have passed and I am still purchasing additional mats for areas I deemed not for doggie access.

WORKS GREAT!
I got dad a small dog last October. NOTE TO SELF: Give dogs in the summer, easier to litter house break. It was too cold all winter long and dad was reluctant to take the dog or himself outside. He's 91. Hey...it's his dog, I don't do dogs, ANYWAY the little turd got into the habit of P'ing and Doo'ing in the front living room. The stay off sprays don't work but this MAT DOES! But you need two if you're going to lay it on the floor. One will do fine on the furniture IN THAT SPOT but I wanted to block the door. The little booger learned to jump over the 24" mat, which was an accomplishment for a little dog. A big dog would just step over it. So I got the extension mat and that solved the problem. BUT: THINKING that the dog had learned, I took the mat up. Bad P and Poo move. So I've got the mats down for good now, I can live with it and I don't have to tell dad to go scoop up Pee Wee's poop anymore. BUT now the little urchin has started dumping in the hallway leading to my room. I'm sure the mat would work fine but I'm barefoot at night and the mats are tingly for us humans. So, I've opted for the shock collar. It's coming in today. I'll mount the transmitter on the wall and another by the cat box to stop his late night munchies. I got the one for BIG DOGS. Here Pee Wee, uncle has a present for youuuuuuuu.......
