Easy to use, sturdy can opener.
I have no idea what folks are doing to get these to rust! I’m about 4 years in on these at this point and mine gets rinsed after each use and stuck to a magnet on the side of the refrigerator to dry. Maybe a dishwasher or putting them in a drawer wet would do it or maybe not rinsing them after use, but come on this is as simple as it gets and is a very functional, sturdy little can opener that should last a lifetime if you give it half a chance! I have one hanging in every kitchen I cook in!

Low quality product
Only four months later it became rusty. Difficult to imagine a kitchen tool made not of stainless steel. This one is. Waste of money.

Great and safe can opener...
The Pearl Easy Cooking can and bottle opener is one of the best configurations and advancements of the P-38 line. When I was a chef, I made many kitchen inspections and one of the most important and most overlooked items was all the kitchen can openers; electric and manual. Specifically, the part where the opener is in contact with the can. On most openers there is a gear-shaped washer and a sharp, beveled washer that are joined at a slight angle to facilitate application to the rim of the can, when pressure is applied to situate, or clamp, the can rim in the cutting/opening crevice. Contents from the cans usually ends up in the gear/cutting area, and after time, those foodstuffs can rot and be the basis for food contamination and/or food poisoning, as rotten food is dropped or rolled into the fresh can contents. Over time, the food in the gears can become gelatinous and sticky, or hard, if the opener is not sanitized every day--soaked in bleach and cleaned with a steel or brass bristle brush, similar in size to a toothbrush. If a manual opener it should be sent through an electric dish or pot washer, examined again and either brushed again or left to air dry before being put back in service. For electric openers, one can only use a metal bristle brush, bleach or an approved cleaning solution to be rinsed carefully with hot water. If the cutting portion of the electric opener can be removed from the can opener, that is the best way to sanitize it. Check your manual or electric home openers for built-up residue and if you find that dark, sticky-looking crud there, clean it or buy a Pearl Easy Cooking opener. I have been using P-38's and P-51 manual openers for decades because you can clearly see liquid or food stuffs on the pick-like blade of the P-38, and you can rinse it off and wipe it clean in seconds, and never worry about food contamination. My only issue with the Pearl opener is they have the bottle opener on the wrong end; it should be on the bottom of the opener because the action of opening the can necessitates torquing the opener forward and down with your fingers and thumb; this finger and thumb-busting is the drawback of the P-38 configurations; the horizontal part of the openers need to be twice as wide as they are to facilitate torquing/opening. The Pearl opener is great otherwise as it is very sturdy and has the very large white plate to make opening very easy. Cleaning it is extremely easy as the blade is stationary and of one thick piece of stainless steel. Strange how a simple piece of metal can keep you healthy, All in all, the Pearl Easy Cooking opener is quite a well-thought out tool of Japanese design, attention to detail, engineering and construction. And, it was delivered weeks ahead of schedule--win win!

Easily Rusted
The design is superb, and is well made. The can opener itself however has rusted despite being hand washed and dried. Would've expected more from a stainless steel tool that was constructed well.

It‘s like cutting butter!
I have tried at least 10 different can openers in the past 15 years, manual and electric ones. I was so fed up with the fact that none of them last! Cheap or high cost, all were poor quality. I visited my mom the other day and saw her opening a can using the opener that I could remember seeing it when I was a child, I am now 47. She confirmed it‘s the same one that lasted 40 plus years, sometimes simple is the best. This old fashion can opener is easy to use and I this is the last one I order in my life.

Excellent product
Finally a can opener that works! I happily threw away all my others. For some reason I've had a hard time finding an opener that works. The electric openers eventually stop working or the gears gum up and the manual openers pop off the can. This one does what it's supposed to do. It grabs onto the lip of the can as you pull it back. No slipping off. Takes up no counter space and very little drawer space. Handy to take camping as well. Stainless steal so it won't rust, also simple design makes it easy to clean. I just love it.

The real deal
Sturdy and beautiful little can opener. After about 15 wheel can openers sent to the landfill I am back to this old school style opener. I had one like this one years ago and somehow it disappeared from my own house. Those wheel can openers were my only option since there are not really many choices available. They are garbage.I've got this one a couple of days ago and I am buying a second one to be sure I will never have to go back to cheap rip off can openers

Best Manual Can Opener!!
This little beauty takes up so little space and takes so much less energy to use than the crank-style can openers. If you haven't tried this type, you've got to get one!!
