I've had these Red Wing boots for around 15 years and they've been my trusty ally through building demolitions, renovations and heavy landscaping activities. They've taken a beating and never received the love they should have as I've never once polished or really cleaned them other than a hose to the sole. I decided now was the time to try to bring them back to life. After a good deal of research, I settled on a two part combo. The first part involved using Fiebing's Saddle Soap to do the heavy lifting with the cleaning and secondly using a conditioner to come in and finish off the job. I started first by brushing off the boots with an old toothbrush and a soft bathroom shower brush to remove any loose dirt and debris. You can see in the photo just how rough the leather was. With the boots clean from debris, I used a wet clean rag to carefully apply the Fiebing's saddle soap and instantly I could see the boots come back to life. Not only did this restore the color and clean the boots but they are also softer once again. After letting the boots dry I followed up with the conditioner to help provide a protective barrier and complete the job. Fiebing's saddle soap was easy to use by simply using a wet rag to lather it up and rub it on evenly. I used a separate rag to rub it after to remove any dirt the saddle soap may have brought to the surface. There were no terrible smells and the cleanup was easy. The size of the container provided was a great value for the cost and will last for several cleanings. The yellow color I used is made for darker leathers so make sure to use the white version for lighter leathers or you risk altering the color of your product. Fiebing’s Saddle Soap for the WIN!🏆 Growing up, I watched my Grandpa use saddle soap on saddles and bridles, but it never occurred to me to use it on leather furniture. I lucked into a Beautiful set of vintage leather club chairs that needed TLC. My first purchase was Leather Honey—it was sticky, messy, required a lot of buffering, and appeared to take color out of the leather. (This is why they say to test in an inconspicuous area first.) Leather Honey was the most expensive of the 3, and it left a sticky residue…on the leather, on my clothes and wrecked my gloves. Next I was swooned by the tik toks that swore by Leather CPR—it was easy to work into leather, Had the consistency of conditioner/lotion, did not smell, and seemed to brighten up both the leather chairs and boots I tried it on. Scratches were still visible, but of the 3 it seemed to ‘clean’ the leather well, so it gets an A+ as a cleaner. However, the next day, both chairs and boots looked said they weren’t treated, a the fading and light scratches reappeared. It took long time to dry and felt ‘damp’ but not sticky. I decided to do a side by side comparison of my boots. I used saddle soap on one and Leather CPR on the other. Saddle soap took less product and covered more. It appeared to both clean and condition. My boots were quite worn, and thirsty! It was a touch greasy, but it didn’t require much polishing. It left no residue, but I did wipe it down just to be safe. No transfer to my clothing. No scent that I could detect. I used a liberal amount on my chairs and the scratches were very much camouflaged! I used a microfiber cloth to apply. My daughter sat in one and commented how nice the leather looked/felt. It was a fraction (about a third) of the cost of the others, and I used just 1/10th of tiny tin. My boots fared well in recent wet weather, too. I don’t leave reviews super often, but if I can save someone else from purchasing 3 different leather cleaning/conditioning products, plus the expense, it’s worth it!

It will clean off layers of pre-applied polishes. Makes the leather squeaky clean and naturally moisturises. For best results, apply a fresh coat of cream polish after allowing the cleaned leather to dry off. It is one of the most popular saddle soaps in the market.

Darkens leather a bit but restores moisture. Good product.
