Very Impressed at First...
I recently ordered several other knives looking for the "perfect knife". Of course there is no such thing as the perfect knife, but this one is as close as it gets! The blade thickness is impressive; almost twice as thick as other blades from other makes (much thicker than a Buck I recently purchased). The scales appear to be rubber, but they are firmly attached and are non slippery. The weight and balance of this knife are superb. Much heftier than other fixed blade knives I own.Overall craftsmanship is very well executed. Even the nylon sheath it came with is well made! When I ordered this knife I also ordered a leather sheath for it as I thought (based on my experience with other brands of knives I have purchased in the past) that all nylon sheaths were junk. Agsin, I was surprised with this nylon sheath. So much so that I like it much more than the leather sheath!Of all the knives I own this is my new favorite.A note to the manufacturer; please continue to make knives of this quality at this price point. I will definitely be buying more Schrade knives in the near future.UPDATE:Upon careful inspection I noticed a couple of hairline cracks on the blade. They were pretty noticeable when I shined a light on the blade. I was a bit bummed out as I really liked the design and finish of this knife. Amazon sent me a replacement (awesome service), however, the replacement did not look as nice as the first "cracked" knife. The replacement knife had multiple tiny scratches on the black finish of the blade, a tiny chip on one of the hex screws of the handle and the rubber handles seem a bit loose near the center between both screws. Also the rubber handle on the replacement knife did not appear to be brand new. Overall either this replacement knife was a returned item or Schrade's quality control people were out on a lunch break when this knife went through the assembly line. Either way it is quite a disappointment. While I am happy with Amazon's customer service, I am a little disappointed with this replacement knife. I'm not going to return this replacement knife, but I doubt I'll be ordering any more Schrade knives in the near future.

handy hand sized blade is simply a very good knife
a bit "weighty" for its overall size but it only makes the blade feel more handy and trustworthy - like it will last and deliver. Clean design, thick steel back, sharp blade out of the box (dressed it with a finish ceramic or diamond and strop it and with this edge you can shave). Almost a shame to imagine you would have to batton with it but you can, it is made to handle it. Ferro steel included is okay, costs around 6 dollars on Amazon to get replacement (if you want brand name). Handle is roughly 1 and 1/3 length of blade, full tang, some type of poly rubber grip.

Needs work
I was disappointed. I pulled it out, stuck it into a pine 2x4 - and when I pulled it out of the wood I noticed the tip was chipped. (small - you had to be looking for it). With a hollow grind it takes a lot of work to re-profile the edge. There's a very thick spine, so a lot of steel to work with though. Decent knife if you're willing to put the work into it. I do like the size, the handle, and the sheath w/ferro rod. It wouldn't be my go-to for camping - but a nice "carry around the farm" kind of knife. (once you get it fixed up)

GREAT LITTLE KNIFE
This is my second knife from Schrade. I bought this one after purchasing the SCHF36 Frontier (which I also love). This knife is incredible. I will be updating my review after the summer when I get more use out of it. It comes fairly sharp from the factory, I have a lansky sharpening kit for an even better edge. The blade seems really strong, it's very thick. Comfortable grip, fits my hand perfectly. The sheath seems well constructed, when I update this review, I'll be sure to mention the sheath quality. The ferro rod that this knife comes with is great, makes a lot of sparks. As I said earlier, this is my second Schrade, I wanted another knife that was smaller for every day carry. I love this knife.

Nice
This thing is a chunk. It holds an edge very well. The handle is amazing in the hand. I have large hands and it fits it perfect. The only bad thing is the cordura sheath is ok but the knife retention is horrible and the velcro strap doesn't stay together. The lightest touch and it is undone. Other than that this thing is amazing. Would definitely recommend getting one of these.

A lot of 1095 for the money...
Great, almost too sturdy of a field knife. If anything detracts from it, it would be the weight. If you are a backpacker counting ounces pass on this one. Get the Cold Steel Lightweight Hunter. Otherwise, if you are hard on gear, you will have a helluva time tearing this one up! A lot of knife value for a little money. Add it to your collection. The sheath is kind of cheesy but I would have been happy with the knife alone for this amount. EnjoyJerry

Wanted to hate it, but I just can't........buy this knife.
I wanted not to like this knife. The price is too low, the sheath looked chintzy on the Schrade video, etc., etc., etc. Then the knife arrived. I was able to slice paper into little flakes with the knife right out of the box, the grip is fantastic, even with my lobster claw hands, and the sheath is solid. The ferro rod works great, too.Bottom line; if you need a decent knife at a great price, this Schrade will do you just fine.

Too much of a good thing.
Greetings,That is the first time, I receive a blade in the sheath, what is the reason? I do not know, but what I know is everybody will put his thumb on the blade to asset the edge. I did the same but not on the edge first, from the top of the blade downward and it scratches my finger. What is it? Excess of zeal.I once told you what is the worse enemy of the good? It is the better. That knife was cutting to perfection but someone continues the process, The blade became fragile, fall on one size that scratch my thumb. So for all of us that hone to perfection, stop before attaining it. Better to have not a perfect blade but a cutting one. What is to do? Take your honing stuff or better if you have a diamond rod in your kitchen, use it sparingly to repair thedefect. If I spent so many lines on this incident it is because all of you are honing their knives and that is the most common mistake, do not try to be a master. We all start at the beginning and we read, look at videos, become better and better with time. But what a knife, we have here, perfectly balanced, sharp, more handle than blade, that is the comfort in small blades it gives you control over your blade.Money well spared. And the rod to make fire, it is an elastic that holds it, so you can stretch a bit around the end and that is it, not only will it stop bothering you, you will always get your rod when you need it, because it is more secured by the elastic. So a very good knife for the price and it is a Shrade.Regards,Frรฉdรฉrick Turgeon

1095 steel for $22! Exceptional value.
The good:Seriously, $22 for 1095 steel? That's a ridiculously good bargain. The temper is pretty good. It's easier to sharpen than my Esee knives, but holds an edge just as long.Had good dimensions(handle to blade size).Tough.The bad:I hate the rubber scales, they are too soft and have a couple of hotspots. I'm replacing them with wood scales. The knife is way too thick. 1/4" steel is absolute overkill, especially for a knife this short. It makes it heavy, and pretty terrible at cutting. The sheath sucks.I have already stripped the coating off, made a kydex sheath for it, and am going to make wood scales. For a beater camp knife, it's worth it. But wait for the updated version to come out. It has micarta scales, and a kydex style sheath.

Great deal
Shrade does it again with an excellent budget blade. Excellent little knife and a good size when paired with a hatchet. You can't go wrong with this knife, it will do most bushcraft tasks and heck, if you break it (which I doubt) or lose it in the bush no great financial loss.

Great little knife.
Love it, no issues with the knife at all. Great for camping although the blades a little short for batoning. I would buy the longer bladed model next time.
