I ordered a gen 4, but received a gen 3 - i believe the main visible difference is the button size, which is larger on the gen 4?

I believe you are correct. The gen 4 is described as having a metal button and the images show what appears to be a button that is larger and surrounded by a metal bezel. My gen 3 utilizes a rubbery type material with no surrounding bezel. With my arthritic hands turning the light off and on is often a two handed operation. I would expect a bit less fumbling around with the gen 4 button. But it may also be easier to accidentally have it turn on in your pocket as it bumps into other objects there, making the lockout feature more of a necessity. I don't use/need that feature on my gen 3. That being said it may be worth your while to contact the seller and inform them that you did not get what you ordered and see how they respond. (no price difference in gen 3 and gen 4).
