Frigidaire FRA073PU1 7,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner

LIve in a very hot second floor southern exposure apartment. Suffered over 20 years with no a/c. I am very satisifed with this model which i've been using for almost 2 years now. Glad I read the reviews and bought this 7000 btu model. I live in a one bedroom apartment and it cools the bedroom very quickly and sustains a very cool temperature all night if i need it. Like the variable speeds and also the ability to change the thermostat it has. Generally I keep the thermostat on the coolest temp 61 degrees. Initially I found the whole window installation of the exhaust tube to be frustrating. It did not really fit my old aluminum windows. I also did not want to permanently install it as I planned to wheel it out to my living room to use there too. What I ended up doing was to simply stick the exhaust hose out the window and I custom cut some foam from a sleeping bag mattress to fit the open space in the window. I did this for both the bedroom and the living room and it works like a charm. I use a bit of duct tape to secure the foam in place in the window. I was afraid initially that I would have to return this unit because the window install device didn't fit. But my creative touch works like a charm. I love that I can wheel this between rooms. When I work from home and its a hot day I wheel the unit into my living room where my desk is and even though this is a large room the power of this unit works very well. I would say that for an average size bedroom this unit is perfect but if you mostly plan to use it in a large living room you should go up to the next level of BTU's. I vacuum the two filters periodically and its so easy to do so. So far I'm very impressed by the quality. I'm glad I didn't buy a not well known brand name. It was worth the extra money to get a very high quality unit. Yes it is noisy but when you get the amazing relief from this unit on a scorching hot day you will gladly turn up your TV a bit more and enjoy the cool temperatures it creates for your home.

I was a little disappointed that the exhaust hose is so short - 6 ft, maybe? Not sure, but when I installed it, it was impossible to use "out of the box". Thankfully, I had another length of duct host and taped them together to become long enough to work. Otherwise, it's too short to duct out of a basement window. I was able to work around it, and everything else worked flawlessly. Unit cooled quickly and has maintained the temp since.

i made my second bedroom into a computer room - 3 computers, 2 Drobos, 5 external drives, cable modem, router, wireless modem, and on and on :) this equipment generates a lot of heat. even after adding black-out curtains, thermal film on the windows, and reconfiguring the AC vents, in order to keep the computer room comfortable i had to keep the rest of the house in the meat locker range. since i've installed this unit, the central air almost never has to run. i gave it four stars instead of five because the heat exhaust hose wouldn't stay connected until it was taped into place. i'll be very interested to see what effect this change has on my electric bill. i'll update this review if it seems relevant.PS - yes, it's a bit noisy and, yes, it runs quite a bit, but it does provide the selective cooling i expected.

My son purchased this and he loves it. He is always hot and would freeze myself and my younger son almost out of the house. Now he can keep his bedroom at subzero temperatures and we can be comfortable.

It is winter now, but after using this from July to October, I am very pleased with this unit. The problems people had with the vent hose are partly not reading the instructions, and partly the fault of the directions. You have to unfold all of the pleats of the hose at the end in order to thread the hose into the coupling for the window or the air conditioner. It isn't difficult, but you do have to watch what you are doing. Once done correctly, this is very solid. As far as noise, no it isn't "whisper Quiet" but what air conditioner is. It is quiet enough we could hear our neighbors whole house unit over this this one We used the air conditioner in our bedroom during the night, and we had no problem sleeping with it on. My only criticism, is I would like a mode that completely shuts off the fan, when it isn't cooling, and turns it back on when the the temp rises enough. I am considering getting another for the basement where my office is, next summer if it gets hot for a long time. I have a dehumidifier (also Frigidaire which is why I bought this air conditioner). Most of the year the dehumidifier is fine, but when it is hot, a dehumidifier just adds to the heat. After using this for one fairly hot humid summer in Ohio, I am very pleased.

Worked well. cools the room quickly even when the temperature outside is high. Delivery was fat and no problems with the product

This air conditioner was easy to install and directions were legible. Does the job as specified in the BTU guide.
