- The “Zephyr MIMC” cartridge is designed and manufactured in the USA to extremely exacting standards. The unique design results in a "no-compromise" moving iron cartridge design providing the listener with unparalleled performance through employing a tiny, ultra-low mass high-purity moving iron element. The “Zephyr MIMC” cartridge differs primarily from other cartridges in that the total moving mass has been reduced to an astonishingly small level. A key optimizing element in The “Zephyr MIMC” cartridge is the use of a single-piece, ultra low-mass moving iron, stylus and cantilever assembly. If required, it can always be rebuilt to new condition by The Soundsmith. Its design insures optimal performance for many years to come. The “Zephyr MIMC” cartridge is a low output “moving iron” design, and is compatible only with standard “moving COIL” phono inputs. The minimum load must be 470 Ohms, or greater for proper high frequency performance. The “Zephyr MIMC” cartridge employs a unique energy dissipation design used in our top of the line SUSSURRO cartridge. Great care has been taken to manufacture this cartridge to exacting standards and performance. It should provide you with many years of fine listening from your treasured vinyl collection. * Stylus - this is the actual "needle" or shaped diamond tip that fits in the record groove and follows the movements of the groove walls. All Soundsmith styli tip shapes are either elliptical or contact line, and are either titanium bonded or solid "nude" diamond. ** Cantilever - This is the rod or arm that holds the stylus its function is to accurately transmit the movement of the stylus into the cartridge body, which converts that movement into small electrical signals. It should be, by design, extremely lightweight and very rigid. All Soundsmith cantilevers are either aluminum alloy, sapphire, ruby, exotic metal or ceramic. Works great on my JMW-9 tonearm and VPI Scout
Works great on my JMW-9 tonearm and VPI Scout. Sutherland Ph3D preamp set to 1000 Ohms and 60 dB gain gives plenty of volume control range on my Aragon line preamp. Big upgrade from my Shure V15-IV VMR cartridge that never really worked well on that arm. Have to listen to everything over again now!
