Q: can you hang it on a ceiling with 2 inch joists and drywall?

I wouldn't see why not. We drilled through some stained plywood used on our porch ceiling and went right into a joist. Thing is, you can't use the hardware that comes with the chair for a joist though because it's too wide. Go to your local hardware store and get a heavy rated eye hook bolt. I got one rated for 250 lbs. Predrill into the joist with a drill bit smaller than the bolt and then put your eye hook in as strong as you can get it in there. I used a screw driver to spin it once my hand couldn't. It should hold steady.

Q: Can I go on 8 foot ceiling?

Yes it can. You can also adjust the seat to a height that is comfortable for getting on and off. The height will not be an issue as much as whether or not the ceiling has the proper studs/joists to connect to. Otherwise the hanging swing becomes the floor model.

Q: How do you clean this? There are no instructions in the packaging.

We recommend that you wash by hand.

Q: Can you easily detach this to bring inside for safe keeping? I live in an apartment and I would worry about it being taken off of my unsecured porch.

Yes, leave the chain outside and unhook the chair from the S hook provided. I take mine down when it's gonna storm.
