Ausdom Dash Cam, Dashboard Camera Recorder with Full HD 1296P, 2.4" LCD, Wide Angle,Night Vision , G-Sensor, WDR, Loop Recording

I was impressed by the quality of the video playback and the degree that you are able to customize what and when it records. The picture was fantastic. The craftsmanship of the build however is not good enough for me. I have been using this for 7 months daily in my PoV and work truck. I move it with me from home to work every day so it does get a little more movement than some others might give it. This has caused the Power adapter plug to break off inside the unit. After my personal inspection, it seems that this was never meant to be very tough. The one area that this camera fails is understanding that it relies very much on being plugged in. If, as I do, you need to use it for work and at home the cord gets bumped around quite a bit. The way it is mounted to the circuit board inside the housing is not very strong and will easily break off with fatigue from being bumped. I would, regardless of this problem, buy another one if it lasted at least a year. $90 a year for the kind of insurance this give me in my profession is pretty cheap. 6-7 months...meh I can probably do better. I did go to the Ausdom website and read the warranty information and how to warranty the item. They want me to get an RMA from Amazon, put it in the original box with all the original contents and send it to Amazon who will then send it to Ausdom who will then determine if it is a warranty issue(probably not according to their warranty FaQ) and then they might at their discretion, fix or replace it. 7 months into using it, I probably did not keep the box..I am not going through all of that anyway.After posting this review, an Ausdom company representative contacted me to replace this unit. They were very understanding about the fact that I did not have the box and made the return easy for me to accomplish. I have received what seems to me to be a newer model and much stronger unit. All the software seems to be the same(very easy to understand and set up) it seems to run the same but has a higher quality of build. It feels heavier and looks cleaner and sharp. Very nice camera. I have not viewed any video from it on a monitor yet as I haven't witnessed anything worthy of the effort. I will I am sure very soon and I'll try to update this. I have updated my Stars to reflect my satisfaction. This is a great value. If you have never used a dash cam before this is a great one to try first. If you have used others I cant imagine they can be much better than this one.

Update. I talked with their customer service and this type of dash cam doesn't do well in hot areas. You need a capacitor-powered model. They are refunding my money. Therefore, I am updating the review due to supportive customer service.This dashcam works, somewhat. However, I do have a few problems with it. 1. It does not handle heat well. In fact, it has a statement in the box saying to keep it from direct heat and any hot conditions (above 85 degrees). What the heck?!?! This is going in the dash area of a car in the summertime. Of course there will be LOTS OF HEAT! This causes other problems as in the next one. 2. When it gets hot, it will not turn off or on, until it is reset. Therefore, I have to reset it often to keep it working. When that happens, the camera does not save the file, meaning whatever was recorded up to that point is worthless. Therefore, it works about 50% of the time (only during the early morning or at night after the sun goes down). 3. You can't leave it on. You must disconnect it every time you leave your vehicle. If not, again it will need to be reset and the file(s) will be lost.

I liked the video the device captured, but when I disconnected the device from my car, the camcorder kept turning on automatically and it kept doing that until it needed recharging. I also didn't know how to turn off the sound when the device kept turning on. I searched the menu for a way to silence it, but there wasn't a way to totally silence the chiming tune when it turned on. Another issue I had was the menu. It was not easy to use the menu settings and the manual didn't give the best explanation on how to work this thing. I went online to the manufacturer's website (Ausdom) and that was not much help. I looked for a phone # to call, but I couldn't find one, so I sent them an email with my issues. I haven't heard back yet and I didn't get an email from them acknowledging that they received my email. I liked the device because of the clear pictures, but I couldn't deal with the other issues, so I have decided to return it.

The media could not be loaded. ** UPDATED 08/25/2016 **After contacting customer service regarding the failure they offered to either send out a replacement unit or refund my money. Since I liked the unit until it had problems I decided to get the replacement unit. I have now put it through its paces and it is working like a champ. I have added a video of just driving around that shows the quality in direct sunlight and then indirect sunlight and also gives a good example of the sound (sorry about me singing in the background).Pro's- Excellent customer service- Excellent video quality for this size camera (added video)- Small footprint so it doesn't block driver's view- Suction cup holds really well- Sound pickup is pretty good for such a small unit (listen to attached video)Con's- Battery is essentially useless. I'd recommend a more powerful battery. This one lasts 5-10 minutes.** ORIGINAL REVIEW **I was really loving this camera for the first 2 weeks. The video quality (if set at the highest quality level) is really sharp and has a great field of view. After about 2 weeks the battery does not last more than 4-5 minutes and the display is not constantly showing a moving circle (like it is thinking). I had planned on doing a video review on this as I was at first impressed. Unfortunately, I kept it past the 30 day return period so I've got a camera that only partially works.
