Are the wire nuts large enough to tie 3, 12 ga wires?

yes. But it is a tight fit. I had to use 3 12g to form loop around my house

Any tools to help me find the break in my undergroynd fencing?

I bought the PetSafe Wire Break Locator. It worked for me. A tree root had grown so big, it snapped the wire. It would have been difficult to locate without the tool.
