Amazing reel, fresh and salty
First off, I absolutely love this reel and have definitely put it to work over the last two years. I live on the coast of NC so I have access to fish both fresh and saltwater within a short 5 minute drive from my house. That being said, I needed a lightweight reel that could hold a good amount of line, easy to operate, and be able to handle bigger fish. This reel checks off all of those spots. Extremely lightweight and fits nicely in my hand. I have about 150 yards of 30 lb braid on it and haven't had any problems with it. I love that it has two sets of brakes and it actually makes it very versatile. I set the centrifugal brake to a good all around setting and leave it alone. I then use the magnetic brake to adjust for casting distance and how much weight I'm throwing. Since it is operated by a dial I can adjust on the fly, and after using it for a while I know generally what setting to put it on. Baitcaster reels can be difficult to set up but there are plenty of videos showing how to do so, and the rest is just patience and getting to know your tackle. To me a baitcaster is generally for more precision casting, i.e. I want this bait to land right beside that stump. They are really effective in close range fishing, but that's another subject. Although, by adjusting the brakes accordingly, have been able to cast as far as some of my spinning combos. I have been fishing for 20 some years and used a variety of gear in a plethora of situations, I would not hesitate to use this reel. Its features and price point simply outweighs the competition, and I personally love the cork grips. I gave it 4 stars in the "for beginners" category simply because it does take some getting used to, especially if it is your first ever experience with a baitcaster but as I said, with patience it is a very versatile and effective tool. Hope this helps in your decision making.

Incredible for the price. NO BACKLASH!
First, I RARELY right reviews. This product deserved one. I have been fishing my entire life with all the different types of spincast reels (ZEBCO 33 type) and I have used several spinning “open face” reels. I always loved watching professionals on television and have always wanted to fish with a baitcast but was always intimidated by the backlash. I had an old entry level Shimano about 20 years ago and MAN that was a nightmare. Backlash after backlash. Fishing was horrible and I vowed to never fish that type of reel again. I have recently gotten back into fishing and have been using a nice zebco 33 and Daiwa Gold spincast. Decided to spend some more money and get a new ZEBCO bullet on my 3rd rod. The bullet is fanatic BTW for a spincast. After watching some YouTube videos (which didn’t exist in my childhood) I felt like trying a new Baitcast to see if would have the same experience. I was very interested in this one primarily for 2 reasons. 3 brakes and the price. Reviews were great and I figured this would be a great reel to start with. SO GLAD I DID THIS! I wanted to make sure I didn’t backlash so I cranked all the brakes to their max to start with. Had no clue if the thing would even cast with that much brake. I was using a pretty heavy 3/4oz underspin with keitech swimbait. It actually worked! No backlash AT ALL and I didn’t even need my thumb. Casting distance was not great but certainly fishable. I kept it locked down on day 1 and only through heavier lures. Not ONE backlash but also didn’t catch any fish in the small pond I was at. Night 2 which was tonight- started to loosen things up. Through a reaction innovation manbearpig and 10” culprit worm both with 3/16oz bullet weight and 4/0 EWG worm hook. Line has been a 15lb copolymer by P line. Dropped centrifugal break to 3 and magnetic break to 8. So still tight for most angels but NO BACKLASH and I was casting in the 30-40’ ballpark I’m assuming. I have no need to cast further than what I was casting tonight and I really didn’t even need my thumb again! Fantastic beginner baitcast reel IMO. Caught 2 bass on the reel and man oh man did they come in quick and smooth. This is going to be a game changer for me.

Daunting adjustability but a good learning tool
First off, I have around 8 hours on this reel and the more I use it the more I like it. If you're new to baitcasters then there is a big learning curve with this one, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's massive range of adjustability can be daunting when you're just starting out. However, if you stick with it and learn the proper way to set it up you'll find that you now have a good base knowledge for all baitcasters, no matter what type of brake or clutch system it uses.As for the reel itself, I haven't found anything in it's price range that comes close to it. It's action is smooth with very little backlash in the gears. The bearings are quiet on the cast and are nice and tight so there is little to no play on the components. It's still early in the season and pre-spawn isn't in full swing yet so I haven't caught much, but the few I've landed we're decently sized and the reel handled them perfectly as you would expect. I'll try to update this review later in the year when I have more time on it.

Really great reel for the price.
Loved the price of this reel. Do a lot of saltwater fishing and sometimes come back in after a long day of fishing still have to clean all them fish, boat, flush motor on boat, clean truck etc. Etc. So alot of times I don't rinse reels bought all kinds of expensive $200.00 - $500.00 reels just to lock up bearings and stuff if I'm lucky... So was looking for something cheaper but good. Been using a few casrkings lately to come and find out there pretty dang durable, smooth, stylish, and a dang good price.. Need to try your fishing rods next...for coastal fishing...

Worth it!
I've been using this reel for the past four months and I really like it. feels comfortable on the hand. The handles are big and easy to grab. I was really surprised with the castability, super smooth and easy to cast with zero backlash Once I set up the Centrifugal and magnetic brakes correctly. This reel cast as far if not better than some of my Lew's, Abu Garcia and Shimano reels. Overall I think is a great looking reel for a great price *got it for $35 on sale* and the performance is awesome.
