When putting a plant in the ground, should this be put around the roots or near the top of the soil? All tips appreciated!

Hi there, we generously applied the shells to the top of the soil of our raised beds and then tilled in to a depth of about 6-8". We found that this product really helped us with the calcium deficiency we were having here in Colorado, causing end-rot on our tomatoes and peppers. I think we will try applying it around the base of our plants as needed (after big rain events) next year too because, even though it helped tremendously, a few of our plants still had some problems. I think either application of the shells, around roots or top, will work, depending on the severity and nature of your problem or your fertilizing needs. Hope this helps a little.

I assume the crab has been cooked in some way before the shell is removed. Does anyone know how the shell is processed?

I doubt it's been processed. It's simply crushed crab and crab shell. Smells like it too. Ingredients: Crushed crab and crab shell.

Good Natural Fertilizer

Fair price, allegedly all natural fertilizer. I suggest adding it when preparing the soil with other natural fertilizers. Takes time to break down.

Strong Odor

Be prepared for the strong fishy smell. It'll attract flies to your garden. Once I covered veggie plants with mulch, it cut down the fishy odor. I'm assuming it's working. This is my first time using the product.

Works Beautifully

It definitely helped my tomatoe plants here in Eastern NC. I just bought some more for growing microgreens and was a bit disappointed at how chunky it is compared to my first order. A little more powdery would be helpful. Maybe I got the top of the barrel this time around.Otherwise very happy with the product and its results
