Nice but not convinced
I bought this mouse against the reviews I read here and online, I have to admit I was a little bit reluctant at the beginning but once unboxed I liked it, I didn't customise it too much as even just of the box is very comfortable, the movement on the mouse is smooth and gives a good feedback, the laser is extremely accurate and the software gives you the possibility to create macros and personalise profiles.Unfortunately 2 things badly influenced my judgement and made me return it to seller the day after, mainly the first is that I didn't managed to get the right model, despite I ordered and returned 3 units, specifying to the amazon customer service the reason each time.In fact I was looking for the gloss black as the one you can see in the picture and read in the title, amazon delivered to me the matte black instead, but of course this is just a matter of personal taste, I don't like the matte finish because it'll get "gloss" with the normal day by day use looking worn. The second thing that I didn't like is about the battery, it comes with 2 Li-On batteries, great, buy a new set costs $16, and they don't sell them here in the UK also the battery position is very uncomfortable and for me difficult to remove.I've now decided to try other mice despite is a good device.

Nice mouse, looks very cool
Very good mouse indeed. You don't realise how much difference it makes being able to change the length and width of it until someone else adjusts it to fit their hand and you come back to find it's not quite right for you. Weight adjustment is a good thing too.The battery swap-out is very cool (someone else likened it to changing magazines in a handgun), but pulling the battery out is a bit fiddly - there's not much to grab hold of. It's a minor niggle though, and having the spare battery on your desk in front of you is very handy. The sniper-mode button is one of those things that sounds awesome, but I spent more time setting it up than I have using it. Great idea though. The sensitivity button above the scroll wheel is far more useful. All in all, it looks great, is very usable and has everything you'd want from a high-spec mouse.

Brilliant upgrade from the R.A.T 3.
When you first open the box for the R.A.T 9 mouse and feel it for the first time, I doubt you will be disappointed, it oozes quality straight from the first glance and doesn't disappoint when you pick it up.It feels well built and it is obviously manufactured to a very high standard. The box is brilliant, before you open the box up it's an impressive sight and a lot of thought has obviously been put into it.Upon using the mouse it maintains it's already positive first opinions, the wireless works flawlessly and there are no problems with it at all.The Drivers and the software that you download from the Madcatz website is simple to do and takes 1-2 minutes at most.Overall I bought this to upgrade from my R.A.T 3 Mouse and I couldn't be happier, this makes the R.A.T 3 look bad (which it isn't) but the superior feel and usage brought to the table by the 9 is unmatchable... And I don't have another annoying cable on my desk.I would recommend this to anyone, you won't be disappointed.

A good mouse, although a few miner problems make it imperfect
I've always wanted this mouse, it's very fun to tinker with and adjust to make it comfortable which is great. The mat black one looks very nice, arguably the best looking mouse on the market right now and the little tools and adjustable parts have a silver highlighting which adds to the aesthetics a lot.A feature I like is the easy swapping of the batteries, I find that they last a day and a half for me using the computer for maybe six hours a day, which isn't a big deal because they're easy to change (I can do it in less than 15 seconds). One problem I've found though is you can't get a grip on the battery within the mouse unless you take off the hand rest, which isn't too hard, but I feel like better designing could have neutralised this issue though. The battery in the recharge station has to be pushed in with a considerable amount of pressure and the same goes for removing, this is annoying because it requires two hands for removal/insertion.The weight system is great, personally I have four of the weights in because I feel like a heavy mouse is easier to control. A tip for anyone buying this mouse is that the spring that secures the weights can go in at the front or the back, allowing you to control the mouse's centre of gravity well.A problem I have with this mouse is that you can't replace the batteries if they break, not that I have any reason to think they will. I can't really find anywhere that sells them online, and you have no option to just add different rechargeable batteries inside the shell from what I can see. I read somewhere that if you remove the batteries after they have finished charging this may extend their useful life but I can't say whether or not this is true. The switch at the bottom is silly, if you don't have long nails then there's no way you'll be able to activate that switch, but this isn't a big deal as the mouse will power down after about ten minutes without being touched and you can turn it back on just by clicking, I like this feature.I've tried all the drivers and software for this, they're nice but could be better. All the things you can change should be listed specifically because I feel like there's too much trial and error involved, and I think the macro creating software should be more advanced allowing you to immediately go to specific websites and launch executables with just the click of a button. Furthermore I have a problem causing all the things I've changed and the macros I've made to halted after turning my computer back on, and I have to open the software again and activate them. One of the little screws is very difficult to interact with, if you remove it it's very difficult at the tool you get isn't magnetic, WHY NOT?? The tool being magnetic would make everything way easier. Speaking of screws there's two different kinds used in this mouse, one of them is for the tool that comes with it (under than palm rest) and the others aren't compatible with it so you don't find yourself removing something you shouldn't whilst tinkering. The red button for sniping is nice, but I find it doesn't just slow down but it glitches out when you use it, but this could probably be stopped by changing up the settings in the software that comes with it.Finally, this mouse and all other Madcatz mice have endless problems with all Linux distros, why haven't any of you guys, Madcatz or the Linux distro makers done anything about this?? The problem is very difficult to fix if you don't know much about Linux, but help can be found online. Essentially the problem is caused by that little button next to the left click button that nobody even uses, what does it even do??

The mouse was good for when it was working optimally
The mouse was good for when it was working optimally. Plenty of customisation, several interchamgeable panels and many buttons. However, after a year and a half of consistent use it developed a fault with its tracking. Especially noticeable with high DPI setting and slow movement of the mouse - even with the smoothest movement the cursor gets stuck and gitters on screen. I tested several different mouse mats and other mice in the same conditions - all perform fine. Must be something with the lens of this particular one. Wasn't like that when I got it, but still expected it to be useful for far longer than just 1 and a half years. The most expensive mouse I bought and the most disappointing.
