Mid-season variety of leaf lettuce for open ground and greenhouses.Lettuce can be grown indoors and outdoors. To start indoors plant your seeds 1 inch apart, or about 4 seeds per pot in seed-starting trays. After sowing, cover lightly with potting mix and gently mist with a spray bottle to not wash away the tiny seeds. In case of using a seed-starting tray, put the cover on it and keep it moist until the seedlings sprout. Moisture from the soil accumulates on the plastic and then drips onto the seeds. After germination remove the plastic. Fertilize when the first leaves appear. To start outside, plant seeds in the spring or fall when temperatures are still cool as lettuce can bolt in warm temperatures. Sow seeds 1/8-inch-deep, 1 inch apart in loose, cool soil with good drainage. Add compost or manure to increase drainage. Keep pH at least 6.0. Thin plants to 8 to 12 inches apart. Lettuce will germinate in 7 to 14 days.
