Q: Are the ear pads really deep? Are they comfortable to wear for a long time?

Yes they are very deep and comfortable. However, "long time" is relative. For me, a 2 hour flight wearing it is about all I could do.

Q: Anyone take these to the gym?

Well, you can use them when you run but this kind of headphones is not made for athletes. personally, i don't feel comfortable with them in the gym.
