Cannot recommend this enough
I had been looking for a tablet for quite some time, but was not impressed with the ones that were out there for my needs. After 4 years of (as a computer systems consultant) lugging around a heavy laptop and spare batteries I was wanting something that I could run all my windows apps that I already had, replace my laptop, and have the ability to use it as a fully capable laptop as well as an independent tablet. That's a darn tall order, and the Vivotab has FULLY met my expectations and then some. Sure the cost is higher than most for the tablet and keyboard, almost into ultranotebook range, but for me it was cheaper than getting an ultrabook and an additional tablet. And the Vivotab IMO performs the tasks of both equally well. For understanding, here are the items / accessories I bought to make this exactly what I wanted. And this setup has been performing perfectly in my usage.1) Vivotab tablet2) Associated keyboard3) 64GB microSD card4) 500GB portable driveThe construction is fantastic. Metal frames ad covers, even on the keyboard. It feels solid, but exceptionally light (tablet or tablet + keyboard). The connection between the tablet, once you're familiar with the mechanics, is extremely simple yet maintains a very solid connection between the two. Release is a simple switch on the side of the tablet and off the keyboard comes. The tablet screen is large and clear with great resolution. It just looks clean and I've gotten nothing but compliments on fit and finish. It runs windows 8, and I loaded all my programs on to it that I needed. Not having a CD drive was a bit of a drawback, but all that required was copying the install CD to a USB stick and installing from there. I rarely used my CD drive on my laptop outside of installs anyway, so this was not a loss for me. The 64GB onboard SSD makes boot times under 15 seconds, which means I don't even bother to hibernate anymore - there is no need. Sleep mode is instantaneous. I haven't had a single issue with loading or installing any programs to date.I added the additional 64GB microSD into the SD slot on the tablet effectively doubling the capacity. On this I put the documents / pics / etc that I readily use and reference. Access times are good and I have not had any issues with transfers. The one downside of the SD slot is that its not covered, and an errant pressure on the card ejects it from the slot (as it is intended). That simply means that to be safe I remove the SD card each time I go to put the laptop in my bag. Any other files that I reference, but much less frequently, go onto the external 500GB hardrive. The combination of all these items and their related weight is still tremendously less than my prior laptop, which has been a fantastic trade off.The performance and response times of running multiple applications doesn't seem any different than my laptop. I'm sure if I attempted some heavy graphics or CAD type programs I could get it to grind down, but that's not what I need to do. I can ru instances of Outlook, Word, Excel, etc all at the same time without any problems. It's also been perfect on those long flights, to either do work or watch movies. I never have to worry about running out of battery power, regardless of how many movies I watch. Another aspect I love is that when docked (tablet on the keyboard) power drains from the keyboard first leaving the tablet with the largest reserve it can have should you need to undock. And when charging the tablet gets the power first and when full it then switches to fill the keyboard. A simple concept, but another example of the attention to detail of this unit. Docked runtime is roughly 19.5 hours, charge time for both completely drained is about 5 hours..Connectivity via bluetooth works well with my other bluetooth devices for transferring files or streaming media. Wifi is quick and allows you to designate each network as metered (pay for data) or not. If metered, it automatically constrains what data is requested (like updates, etc) and defers them until you are on a non-metered network. Another great feature that has already save my data plan. The only downside is the speaker placement IMO. They put them on the back of the tablet, which makes them effectively unusable. I tend to use headphones anyway, and you could connect bluetooth speakers easily enough if needed. In general I can't recommend this enough. I've replaced my laptop with this unit and am loving it!!

I can no longer recommend this computer
EDIT: Since I purchased this computer, I have had significant problems. At first I thought this was user error or my learning curve using it. However, it is not user error; the product has significant issues that make the product inherently unusable to problematic to use. Worse yet, Asus has been, quite honestly, completely indifferent to rectifying the problems.I don't say this lightly, and I write this negative review simply because I just want to avoid others the hassle and aggravation of dealing with really very, very, poor customer service and a sub-par product. The customer service representative, "Mikhael," who works out of the carribean, literally laughed at me as I described problems that I was having. I have never been so offended by a customer representative. He would give me any information identifying him, so that I could complain to the company. However, even after speaking to other representatives, I was stone walled with very frustrating and time consuming run-around. I am recent law school graduate, well educated, and very computer literate. I just can't support this company now. I will likely have to file a law suit, just to get a refund or working product--if one exists and the problems are not inherent to the model.Problems include: a keyboard mousepad that was initially defective and has become utterly unusable. I have returned the computer only to receive the same computer 17 days later (not 5-7). The problems were not resolved, and all they attempted to do was reinstall windows. The issue is a hardware issue; however, Asus will not send me a new keyboard.Additionally, the computer itself is extremely glitchy; it freezes, crashes, and overall has problems running common software. At first, I thought that I was doing something wrong and I gave the computer the benefit of the doubt. However, after several months of attempting to use--the computer is a better paper weight than anything else. Please feel to ask me questions about this experience.... And please do not purchase this product. Better yet, just don't reward Asus's poor customer service and policies by purchasing any of its products.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________Initial positive review:I was up in the air about this tablet, and was looking at several other. Namely the Samsung model with the faster processor and also thinking about waiting out for the IBM Helix. However, I am glad I pulled the trigger on this one. The computer is very solidly built, feels great to travel with--super light--just went on a 9 hour flight to Germany and used it pretty much the whole time with word and onenote. Landed and had 68% battery left!! That's just amazing. It runs such programs very well!Pros:great battery lifesolidly built and love to usestarts up quickdoes what i need it to--> law student and this thing is a work horsecomes with a very nice pleather case that holds the stylus wellquiet, no heat, does not remind you of a lap top at alltiny power cord--very portable unitcons:slower with updating and installing programs and suchmight not be able to run memory and performance draining programs as fast as other computers--but word, onenote, etc work no different than much more tech intensive desktopsmouse pad is a little finickyOverall love it!Update: I have used this computer for a couple weeks now, and my review substantially is the same. I frequently have multiple webpages up researching Westlaw and Lexis documents (that are quite long), I print PDF's to Onenote for highlighting and notetaking in the margins, I have one or two word documents open for brief writing, and I have multiple emails open, I occasionally play youtube or prerecorded videos; I do all these things at the same time. The computer runs good to excellent. Highly image orientated webpages like facebook can be jerky to scroll if you have all those things going at the same time; however, usability is fine for my purposes. It doesn't freeze or get frustrating. Overall any performance good to excellent. Most of my gripes are at learning Windows 8. One gripe is that there are simple so many ways to enter commands via the touchscreen and mouse pad that learning them takes time. But the learning curve is not too difficult. The touch screens ease of browsing and versatility, awesome stylus, incredible small size and weight--but easy typing keyboard, and absolutely incredible battery life far more than make up for any perceivable performance issues, IMO. Hope that helps. Overall, I have no interest in another laptop, and will have a desktop if I need a performance king.
