Optex IVPDH IVision+ Wireless Intercom with Video

I have been in the professional security systems industry for decades. Optex has always had a good reputation and they think things out very well. Sets up in minutes. In contrast, I tried the "Ring" Doorbell doorbell and that was a joke (flaky software and under trained customer service - sent it back). This Optex unit is solid and simple and well thought out. Its perfect security because being a professional security expert, we dont recommend answering the door - opening it before you know exactly who they are. I really like that you can have other inside stations in different parts of the house. I also like the LED night illumination to see who is there in low light (Ring Doorbell had this but much weaker light so at night it works better). There are a couple downsides: The door station is big and sticks out like a small brick. The field of view (how wide the camera can see) should be improved on. There is an articulating "point the camera" adjustment when you initially mount the camera so if its to the right or left of the door you can point the camera at the persons face. The lens does not let you see too low so an adult versus a child is a problem. I also like to see what someone is carrying and this is not well suited for that. The unit takes snap shots of anyone ringing the doorbell even if you are not home, but... it does not have any motion detector to detect a person walking up to the door or dropping off a package without ringing the doorbell. In summary, it provides a very nice face shot and for a doorbell - who is it assessment tool - it certainly does the job well. One last note is if you are using this in extreme heat or cold weather climates, you may find the batteries not holding up. There is a hard wire connection and if you have a wired doorbell now, an electrician or security technician can wire it to a permanent power source. You might elect to try the unit first using the batteries and deal with that later if needed. Normally the batteries last a year or so. Just a few AA's.

Purchased this to replace a video door bell that finally died after 5 years. Really like that one but it is no longer made. After some research I found this one and after contacting the company found out they made the previous door bell I had but for a different company. I hoped this on would work a well but it does not. It is very difficult to install due to the wall plate that you have to install prior to wiring the door bell in place you will need to add at least a foot of wire to your existing door bell wiring to do the installation. Not that big of a deal to add the additional wire but after this is done there is not enough room left in the wall plate to put the excess wire. Second bigger problem is it is not very loud and you can only hear it if you are in the same room the hand hell unit is in. The older door bell I had was loud enough to hear it in most of the fist level of the house. Granted I could not hear the old unit on on my second level but I would just take the hand held unit with me to the second level. This one I have to take the unit with me from room to room. It does allow you to connect more that one hand held unit to it but they are very expensive. If more that one hand hell unit is needed to hear it if you are over 500 feet away for the base station it should have been included. Part of the volume problem is the speaker is on the back of the hand hell unit. Volume problem could be easily fixed by placing a second speaker on the charging station or on the front of the hand hell unit. Wiring problem could easily fixed by making the wall plate deeper to accommodate the additional wire needed for the installation. If these two glaring problems were fixed I could easy recommend the door bell camera to people like me who do not what to keep their cell phones with them at all times while at home. Because this is only solution I could find that does not need a cell phone to work. As it is I can not recommend this product.

Bought this for my Mom so she could see and talk with anyone who comes to the door. This intercom does exactly this. We tried a Ring door bell but our internet was not fast enough. Great range on the inside handheld unit. Went through multiple walls and at least 60-75' away from outside unit.Only complaint would be viewing angle. You have to position just right to see people standing in front of the door. The adjustable rotating lens does give you a little bit of adjustment. If you don't hook to the doorbell transformer wires this won't be an issue.I was able to hook to the door bell wires which gives you the ability to look at a live feed. With batteries only you can only see the camera when someone rings the door bell.

I had this brand. I ordered this new one and it fit perfectly in the spot of the previous one. Easy to install. So easy. Works very well. There is no app for this one. But for wanting to see who is at the door while you are inside the house, it is perfect. If you live in Houston, even if this item is located at a front door under cover like mine, moisture over the years get to anything outside. But price is good enough, I purchased a new one.

I really like these. I have taken advantage of the "extra monitor", and it works really well as a security feature (although i've not actually put a lock on this device.) Adding another unit was a little cumbersome but when i called their support line, I got immediate help that solved the problem.Please note that the monitor batteries drain quite quickly, so we need to really leave it plugged into power all the time.Other than that, very nice to have a picture with ever visitor recorded, and now I can actually hear the door bell!

This is USELESS. I have tried for a week to remove the battery cover and cannot. If I try any more force I think it will break. I contacted the manufacturer and they were COMPLETELY UNCONCERNED! This is was also a rare occasion where I also got no help from Amazon. Don't buy it.UPDATE 3/6/2017Finally PAID someone to get the batteries in!Now the stupid thing beeps for no reason at random times, usually late at night.As a video system it works okay but it rates ZERO in consumer friendliness.

Best price so far. Well design and built device. For maximum functions. should be hooked to permanent power source. Some limitations according to user/installation instructions manuals on outside usage: avoid rain and cold temperature less than –20C. The warranty is practicaly non existant and begin at the DATE OF MANUFACTURING. The period is almost expired at the time they were bought, at least for the ones I bought. Some miss on sound.

Great total package. Physical barriers between doorbell unit and handheld receiver can inhibit audio and video feed.
