Effective log splitter
I have had 2 of this red painted type for some years and they are pristine apart from the paint. For splitting pine, 24 inch diameter I work from the edge in around the log, using two grenades and a 3rd in case they jam. They must be hit square and hard with a sledge hammer. I use a lump hammer to position and start the first couple of blows. Quite physical but I think they are great.

No more useful than a splitter axe
Sturdy enough but doesn’t really do much more than a splitter axe. If a log is a battle to split with an axe, it will also be a battle with this splitter. Sturdy and strong, but it’s not a miracle splitter.
