Works perfectly and does the job much better than those plastic dethatchers.
Installed on my mower and detached the lawn without any problem. My neighbor likes St. Augustine grass. I like finer bladed grass like Fescue and Bermuda. His St. Augustine has creeped into my lawn and created a thick thatch layer which would not allow the water to get to my grass, subsequently killing it. The local big brand hardware stores only carried a dethatching blade that used plastic instead of metal thatch rakes (replaceable) so you had to buy a bunch of consumables that were going to continually brake. This blade uses metal spring type thatch rakes which are much more durable and also replaceable when that is eventually needed. I had one of these for many many years, but it somehow disappeared. I dethatched my lawn and am now laying down unfriendly St. Augustine weed and feed and will then reseed with Fescue. My only complaint is that this blade is from over seas and the seller provides no tracking information, stating it would add cost to the purchase. I agree it would, but would be willing to pay for that as an option. The package did arrive in a reasonable amount of time, just a little over a week. Since there are no instructions on use for this item, remember to raise your mower to maximum height, then lower it notch by notch until the blade provides the results you're looking for. The metal thatch rakes will destroy a lawn if you're not watching what you're doing. Most certainly don't let the mower set and run in one spot or you'll end up with a bare circle. Keep the mower moving and lift it when stopped or when not on the lawn.

Works well
If you're comfortable changing your mower's blade, this is a great addition to your tool set. Be advised my Toro mower insists on 80 foot pounds of torque to tighten the blade when changing, so if you're not up to using a torque wrench with maybe a handle extension, you might want to check your mower's manual before tackling this.I did some test areas of my lawn mid-summer, and it took a few weeks for the lawn to green up again, but when I did more lawn in autumn when the weather had cooled and rains had started (NW Washington), the lawn greened up quite quickly. You'll have a lot of raking to do. I went back and forth over each area, overlapping my paths, and it did a nice job of getting the junk out of the lawn.

Buyers may need to fabricate adapters
BEFORE ORDERING, CHECK THE BLADE SETUP ON YOUR PARTICULAR MOWER!!)This item worked okay once I had created an adapter for my Murray 21" mower. The original blade is held by one center bolt with a sort of "star" on the crankshaft flange. This dethatcher blade has a round center hole which didn't fit over the "star," required some additional hardware and an couple hours work to ensure the dethatcher blade was secure and safe to use.

Great value and works great!
It didn't fit on my lawn mower (Green Machines electric), but I was able to just bolt it on top of the existing blade. It dethatched well enough and saved me from having to buy a separate dethatcher! I may need to buy replacement wire prongs in a year or two.

Function
I ordered this looking for a low cost solution to do some minor dethatching. Before using it, I cut the grass shorter than normal in the area in question. This area had never been dethatched in 20 years and also had some of the "balls" from a Sweet Gum tree that I wanted to loosen up to make them easier to rake. Bottom line is that it did not work for me. I set it at a low enough level that the tines should have gone deep enough. I used different throttle speeds as well as movement speeds of the lawnmower and essentially, I could tell very little results. It did "flip" out a few of the balls, but that is about it. I bit the bullet and ordered the dethatching unit for my Mantis tiller. If it produces similar results, I will REALLY not be happy. :)

It does not fit most mowers!!!! Don't be saying it does!!
Don't be telling hardworking folks it fits most mowers. Might fit one or two brands. I have a Craftsman and a Toro. Would not work for either mower.Gave it a ZERO for easy to install.....it won't install!Gave it a ZERO for value for my money.....it has no value....it won't install!Gave it a ZERO for durability....it bent as I threw it across the garage!!I waited a month for it and they said..."must be lost in the mail".....they did send another a week later....by that time spring had turned to summer...what's the use of trying to thatcher green grass??Almost all the reviews said they had to adapt something to make it work....you shouldn't have to...it should come with the correct adapters to FIT MOST MOWERS. So list what it fits and what it doesn't...do your job or shut the doors!Save you money look else where.

Not truly universal and destroyed everything in it's path- including live healthy grass
I had to do a lot of washers and spacers and "rigging" of my own to make this work on my mower and even then it didn't hold tight. Even if when I finally got it secure enough to use I wasn't that impressed with the function. The only way it would detach was to lower the mower quite a bit and instead of just going after the dead grass it pretty much just destroyed everything in it's path. If I raised it up a notch from that it didn't do much of anything at all. There wasn't a middle ground that actually seemed to do what it was supposed to. I did give it two stars instead of just one because I think it would be helpful for someone who is starting over from scratch and re-seeding and wasn't necessarily just trying to de-thatch the dead material, but only IF they can manage to get it securely attached to their mower.

Don't believe the picture!
For some dopey reason, I believed the picture that showed the blade, washers and springs...Dopey me - there were no springs in the box when it was delivered; I complained to the seller, asking how the thing is supposed to work without springs, and the seller pointed out that the picture is incorrect and that the springs are not included.Great. Nice going. Lesson learned: you have to really really really make sure you check all the details and fine print when you buy something on Amazon - don't take the picture as true.
