I've not used water decals - how durable are these? Are they waterproof when properly applied?

Yes, the water slide paper is very durable. As long as you use your ink jet printer and seal your decals with clear paint you should not have any problems. You cannot soak your mug or glass in water. Hand wash only.

Can this be used to fire in the kiln?

You would have to apply it post fire. Then clearcoat over it. It would burn off in the kiln.

Is this the same as waterslide paper?

I don't know what waterslide paper is, but the paper I have is blank decal paper that you print on and it slides off onto your project after soaking in water.
