Which driver does the cable take? Prolific?

This cable with FTDI chip (FT232), the CD driver comes with the cable. And ,you can download the driver on FTDIchip Website too. (This one is another type DTECH USB to RS232 Cable which with Prolific chip: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017CZ3FZ2 )

Will this work with a cisco switch?

Most Cisco switches use an RJ-45 jack for serial console connectivity, so you would need an adapter to use it. You'd be better off using something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Console-CableCreation-NETGEAR-TP-Link-Ubiquiti/dp/B0769J9QXP - however, if your Cisco switch has a DB-9 serial port, then this will work fine.

Is the dcd pin on db-9 connected to the ftdi chip? with respect to usb port, what is the direction of this signal?

Which pins are rxd, txd, and gnd?

3 for rxd, 2 for txd and 5 for gnd With this in mind, you may consider using a NULL adapter (male/female) to change rxd and txd pins, and/or Gender adapter (male/male). I keep both of these adapters at hand, in case of a signal mis-match. This is a very good product. I've used it with and without the adapters, very successfully. I especially like the quality and length of the cord,10ft, braided.
