Can the rail be shortened a little? I believe that it's too long for the wall we want to use it on.

Yes, you can cut the Cliprail. We wanted to put a short piece on a side wall. Measure twice, then cut carefully with a sharp hacksaw.

Each rail is 59" in length. So, for the 2 rail kit you would receive 2 rails measuring 59" each, the 4 rail kit gives you 4 rails measuring 59" (for a total of 19 ft 8 inches), etc. The height of the rail profile is 1".
