Does it stick faux wood?

This glue is specially made to bond wood. If the product is a non-wood material, the result cannot be guaranteed.

Can I use this to glue stained wooden crates together?

Yes, this glue is used to bond woods. Note that it is for interior use, and mechanical fasteners are required for heavy loads.

Could I use this to install a chair rail to a wall? TIA

You will still need nails to hit the wall joists. The glue will work, but it will eventually pull the layer of paint or Sheetrock paper from the wall. Glue is mainly used in corners where molding like chair rails meet each other.
