I'll answer by saying, with the fan on "high" I can hear my big screen TV just fine with volume slightly raised. The sound level is not a distraction for me. Payne A/C is a loud.

you can clean the filter by following these steps:

•  Turn off the dehumidifier and unplug the power cord.

•  Remove the filter frame from the back of the unit and take out the filter.

•  Use a vacuum cleaner or a soft brush to remove the dust from the filter.

•  If the filter is very dirty, you can wash it with warm water and mild detergent. Do not use any abrasive or corrosive cleaners.

•  Rinse the filter thoroughly and let it dry completely before reinstalling it.

•  Put the filter back into the filter frame and insert it into the unit.
