Fails sometimes even in offline mode
I used this device tonight with a Colombian friend. Overall it seemed to work well, but every 10 minutes or so it would fail to do anything even after several attempts. I thought this might be WiFi issues, but it failed just as often in offline mode. I would have to go back to the main screen and re-enter translation mode. I have the latest firmware. There's a bug in the code somewhere. Also, I'm in a major metropolitan area and have high-speed fiberoptic Internet access. For some unexplained reason, the device required that it be set in what was called "Agent mode" which it described as a "compromise solution" when response was blocked. That doesn't sound like a good solution. Also, it came only with a brief warranty card but no written instructions. It's fairly straightforward, although how simultaneous translation works is still a mystery to me. It records what you say but does not play the recording. I don't know what value that has.The claimed battery life is optimistic. I would rate it at 4-5 hours of use.The female voice for audio output cannot be changed to any other voice as far as I can determine. This identical device appears to be sold under a variety of brands at somewhat different prices here on Amazon and elsewhere. So, it appears to be a generic device that is branded in the boot section of the firmware. I chose this one because the listing had the most professionally rendered information although mine is the first review. Reviews for any of the brands are lacking. There are some with numerous ratings but few reviews and most of the ratings are "global". The origin of the device and software appears to be Chinese and although it supports many languages, some of the functions, such as language learning, are restricted to Chinese and English. If it didn't appear to become unresponsive occasionally, I would give it 4+ stars. If you could change the audio voice and if it came with some instructions, I might give it 5 stars.

Beautifully designed gadget, but not very helpful or accurate..
It's a very sleek electronic piece, and it has potential, but right now it seems to be a cute toy, not a useful tool. I was hoping to use it for languages with which I'm unfamiliar, but it performed so poorly in languages that I know that I'm sending it back. The most basic questions, such as "Where is the train station?" it could handle, though I doubt that it would be able to translate an answer. When asking for a plumber in French, you might find yourself presented with either a feather or a clown! Strangely however,, it performed slightly better with the spoken languages we tested (English, French, German, Spanish, and Russian) than with printed materials. I've attached a photo of its attempt to translate a couple of headlines from French to English. I hope that a new and improved version will come out eventually!

This is not a rosette stone even though it allows you to learn chinese.
I wish I could learn more then chinese on this thing. Even if connected to wifi it would be nice to be able to pick what language you want to learn.

Eh.
First, I had difficulty getting it to work at all. This isn't something you should expect to just...use. I kind of expected "Google Translate" without Google. Which sounded GREAT. What I got was..."CompuServe Translate" without the translate...if that makes any sense. It's always "Initialization failed, please check the network" with "Set up the network" as the only option. When I select offline translate. Huh? Everything I do, it wants to connect to the network. Here's the other kicker. I left this sit for about a week without touching it. I thought it might be a good idea to see, could I pull this out of my luggage after a week on the road and use it to translate something? Nope. Battery at 0%, wouldn't even power on. I don't know for certain that this will be YOUR experience, but it was mine. Dead as a doornail.So...clunky operation and apparently abysmal battery life when not in operation, I'm not sure this is "prime time" ready. Maybe with a major firmware update, as in, MAJOR firmware update, as in, we brought in another development team to work with the original development team and we re-coded 30, 40% of the code, fixing UI and performance issues as well as battery life issues, then this would probably be a wonderful little device. Maybe even the 2nd or 3rd gen of this product, will be the "Universal Translator" we're all dreaming of carrying in our pockets. As it is now, it requires a lot of effort to get satisfactory results that I'm not sure are ready to replace "Google Translate".And I sure would like to replace "Google Translate".

A World In A Small Device
Once I have it up and running I’ll be able to speak into it and it will translate my language into one of twelve I think are programmed into it. I will also be able to point it at any foreign writing and it will translate the page to readable English. I was to be going to Japan but a certain virus entered our lives and disrupted and sidetracked a lot of peoples plans including mine. But I’v been polishing my language skills and with the help of this very sophisticated technology at my disposal less time will be spent communicating poorly. There’s a lot to read up on this translator but it’s fairly a easy read and setup from the instructions hopefully will be as easy as it claims it will be. I also have a toll free number I can call if I get stumped on any part. What a cool, cool, I want to keep saying gadget but it’s more than that for sure. Four Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!!!
