Is the outer box metal and can you put dividers in the drawers

Yes and yes. No dividers were included, though. Also, I've had two of these and they get beat up pretty bad in shipping. One was mashed down in the center top and I had to bend it back. The other looks like a Dr Suess sculpture, but all of the drawers work. I just picked up one that is all plastic that my wife snatched up. If I could, I'd go back and get the plastic one, it's a nicer piece all around. It feels much more solid.
