Great -- but one important shortcoming....
When the comb attachment on my six-year-old Braun Cruzer broke again — and this time, beyond my ability to repair — I decided to replace it with the BT5050, which is the current model. It's as good or better than my Cruzer, and the comb attachments seem stronger and less likely to break. All good, except for one thing: The BT5050 uses nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries rather than lithium-ion (Li+). The comparison chart on the Amazon site says it has lithium batteries but not true. It uses NiMH (I have notified Amazon). This matters because lithium batteries generally last longer than the older NiMH technology. We'll see -- maybe these are good quality and will do well.About replacing the irreplaceable: Although the batteries are supposedly not replaceable, the manual tells you how to get to the batteries for recycling, cautioning that doing so will "destroy" the unit. See attached photo. That said, I expect you can replace them (as you can for most devices, if you're reasonably handy). Sometimes it requires hacker skillz, like soldering, epoxy ninja skillz, maybe a little Dremel work, but go for it. Once something dies, what do you have to lose? And if you search YouTube for "braun bt5050 battery replace," you will likely find help. Rechargeable batteries are easy to find once you have the dimensions and markings on the old ones. I have fixed many unrepairable items like this (and even scored a free $1100 washing machine because someone on YouTube had figured out how to fix it). Reject the "throw it away" mentality!Otherwise, happy with this unit. Would be five stars if not for the battery technology. It is solidly built, feels like quality in the hand. Quiet and quick. Most important for me is the Dial Adjust. Many trimmers have one comb attachment for each trim length. If you want 1 mm under the chin, 3 mm for the sides, and 5 mm at the mustache, you're swapping fiddly little plastic bits. Arggggh. With the BT5050, you turn a dial, with nicely solid click stops, to the setting you want. Even better than the slider on my Cruzer.Other than the broken comb, the Cruzer was dependable. I cleaned it and oiled it about every third use (the manual suggests every use but I didn't do that).I was happy to discover that the comb attachments fit my old Cruzer, which means that I have a backup (and the Cruzer uses lithium, yay). So, I'm good and hopefully, the NiMH lasts and you'll be good with this device, too.

Worked ok at first, fell on its face after a few months
I had this trimmer about a year now. Initially it was decent, being my first bear trimmer. After about 6 months performance really started to fall short. I used it for the last time about 3 days ago, it absolutely does not cut to length and needs dozens of passes to just thin my beard. When I was all done my face was covered in half-cut hairs that would stick to my shirt collar and coat all the time.I bought a Norelco and watched the excess hair just melt off this morning, I thought I was just going to keep the braus trimmer as a backup but now I'm just going to throw it out.I tried saving this one by washing and oiling, but it was all hopeless in the end. In short, the motor is under powered, the blades dull rapidly, and the combs don't funnel my hair to the blades very well.My Braun electric shaver is still going strong at nearly 15 years old, but this thing was hopeless.

Barely adequate trimmer not worth getting
Really disappointed in this trimmer. It is too weak or something. It works adequately for keeping my beard at a certain length, but its terrible at shaping my beard. I misses a lot so requires going over several passes, and its not able to define any kind of edge like other trimmers I've used in the past. I think its blade is moving too slow, that might be the problem. But whatever the cause, I am going to have to find another trimmer now...

It worked for a while.
I bought this trimmer in December 2016, or about 15 months ago. It worked for a few months, then refused to take a charge, but instead of returning it I decided it was OK to just keep it on the cord. Now when turned on it buzzes for a few seconds and goes completely dead, even while still plugged in. As for speed, cutting performance etc I have no basis for comparison as this is the first trimmer I have had. My next one will not be a Braun.

Brawny enough for a manly man
SO i need a trimmer because i've got a ton of hair, on my head, on my face, even on my knuckles. Lol.I got this to replace my old Wahl wired trimmer, well, not replace, but to have this specifically for my face.So far it's awesome - motor is a lot more quiet that the other trimmers i've had (yes i regularly maintain them) and a lot sharper (yes even when the others were new). Did i mention its CORDLESS?! Love it. The adjustable heads are great too with the 'mm' indicators and setting locks on them.10/10 worth the purchase.

Consistent, sharp, and offers a variety of lengths. High recommend!
I lost my previous beard trimmer when traveling abroad and had to purchase a new one. I much prefer this one. The length adjuster is so easy to adjust - you simply pay attention to "the number" that you like to use and make sure it is set to that number. The cutting length is very consistent and the blades are sharp. It also cuts in a good variety of lengths, including very short.Other trimmers I have used have been less consistent as compared to this one. It also charges quickly. Another reviewer had mentioned that it constantly needs lubricating. I haven't found that at all, so i'm not sure if that is a production glitch.

Weak cut
I have used this to trim short beard hairs and it worked okay. It often needed multiple passes to cut all the hairs to length. I really like the adjustable cutting guide. Recently I grew out my beard, when I attempted to cut it back with this trimmer, it mostly pushed the hair around, cutting next to nothing. I purchased another brand that cut through without a problem. Would not recommend.

I got it to work - barely.
Used it for the first time today.Whilst it looks much better made than previous beard trimmers I have owned at twice the priceI am very disappointed in the performance.I tried to use it at one of the longer trim lengths (10 to 20 fitting) but it was pretty useless. Eventually, after using the shorter attachment at the closest setting, I got it to work - barely.

Good but not perfect
I love Braun products and have used their shavers since I was a teen. This is the first time I buy their beard trimmer.Pros:-Really Nice design. good to hold, non slippery-2 combs with adjustments are perfect for every length you need. You can lock the length so the comb doesn't slip as you trim.Cons:-Even though it does the job cutting, it just barely cuts the hair, sometimes you have to go twice on the same area. The motor just sounds like it's going to die all the time like it's not charged, even when plugged in. Compared to a Braun shaver I use, this one is really under powered.-The charger hisses when plugged in and charging. Not too loud, but annoying.I deducted 2 stars for the 2 cons

Braun used to represent quality, now it’s just another China made trimmer for our landfill
The feel and the build of this trimmer is really good. Unfortunately they failed on the blades. I don’t have the time it takes to groom my beard with this unit. I go over the same spot over and over again and it still misses hairs. The unit sounds like it’s struggling to run. Wet the blades and it rawrs to life for a minute then struggles again. I’m very dissatisfied with this trimmer. I wish I didn’t throw out the box or I’d return it. Now I’m looking for a replacement

Well Built Body, Underpowered Motor & Blade
The Braun Beard Trimmer Bt5050 is really well built, with great attachments and cool design. The best part is that the attachments can lock into place so there is no slipping into shorter lengths while trimming. It feels nice in your hand and body and attachments are sturdy. It comes with a nice pouch for everything, decent enough little brush for cleaning and some oil for the blades. So why the low rating? The motor is greatly underpowered and can barely cut through my thick beard. When I remove the beard attachments to trim my face and mustache, it does not do a close shave and leaves stubble, mainly because the motor is underpowered. On-top of the underpowered motor, in 5 minutes of use the blade gets really hot. This makes shaving a frustrating process to say the least. So much potential because the body design and all accessories are well made, except for them most important parts, the motor and blade!

Great but charger stopped working
This product lasted us about two years, but the battery suddenly stopped charging... don't know what happened. i you're looking for something more affordable and that works (it really did serve me well), I'd recommend it! This is the second one I've purchased and it's been great. But the only disappointing thing is the battery life

It is a great product. I gave three stars because the blades ...
It is a great product. I gave three stars because the blades are not skin friendly. I had previously used Phillips electric trimmer, its blades are skin friendly, doesn't cause irritation after trimming. The blades of this product causes irritation after the use. They need to use skin friendly blades.
