I love yellow dog!
This moving account of how a dog who is cruelly abused and then literally brought back to life by a man who has also endured significant trauma, is touching and sensitively written. I fell in love with yellow dog and loved reading the chapters with his POV. I highly recommend this tough and tender book!

Superb Dog story
I liked the story line. I would have liked a different ending. I wished he would have kept the yellow dog and used him as his police dog.

Nearly as Good as "One Good Dog"
A very good read although perhaps too long. Characters were nicely developed. Clearly not simply a dog story because the human story was even better. Susan Wilson had written "One Good Dog" which I thought was truly outstanding. The Dog That Saved Me was nearly as good and seemed to be of a similar "recipe". I liked the book better than some of her others although I've enjoyed all of the books by her that I've read. This one, however, was nearly as good as "One Good Dog". It really was a "can't-put-down book" in my opinion and I wished I could have had time to read the book in just several sessions. As noted, however, I think the story was very similar to "One Good Dog" in many aspects which didn't detract from my enjoyment this time but I'm not sure how much I would enjoy a third book with a similar structure. In any case, this was a really enjoyable read.

A BATTERED, ABUSED DOG COMES TO TRUST AND TO SAVE THE PEOPLE WHO SAVED HIM
Cooper Harrison is a former K-9 unit police officer. After his dog Argus dies in an attempt to arrest a suicide bomber, Cooper leaves the K-9 patrol and takes a job as animal control officer in his old home town. Cooper’s brother has just gotten put of prison and is back to his old crime of drug running. His alcoholic dad is trying to stay sober and Cooper is chasing a feral yellow dog. A woman who rescues cats has her pets stolen, but then she goes to work as Cooper’s assistant. He’s romantically involved with a neighbor who rescues horses. And a miniature donkey keeps escaping his yard and causing mischief. This kind of police work is not for everyone. Getting over Argus’s death won’t be easy, but then neither is coping with his dysfunctional hometown. Like all of Susan Wilson’s books this is a tale for and about people who love animals and welcome them as important parts of their lives.

BEAUTIFUL BOOK
Along with the parts that made me mad and heartsick for the yellow lab, there were the beautiful moments along the recovery path. I loved this story and the special characters in it. If you love dogs this is a must-read.
