You can tell it’s a quality product
The Spalding Pro Slam Portable NBA 54” goal seems to be made of high quality materials. It took my 12yr old son and myself about 2hrs to fully assemble the basketball goal in our front yard. The directions could be better in my opinion, but all in all it wasn’t difficult. Once the goal is filled with 34 gallons of water it will be difficult to move around, so I suggest filling it up at the location you plan to leave it. It’s very sturdy once the goal is filled with water. We’ve had some pretty windy days and it doesn’t budge. There is also a powder you can purchase separately to mix with the water and turns to gel inside. I don’t suggest sand, it never works out well. But the goal is great, it looks good, has a huge backboard, and I fully expect it to last years to come. I’m happy with it and most importantly my son loves it.

Sturdy and durable
A bit of a pain to put together but once that was done, it is a ton of fun. Saturday and doesn’t sway too much.

Good goal good price
Definitely need to be ready to assemble this beast. It is much heavier construction than our last goal and has a larger backboard. Our kids were waiting expectantly as I assembled it and have been very happy with it. I would say this is a heavyweight portable system. Although the adjustment isnt terribly difficult for an adult, Our middle school aged kids have trouble with the height adjustment. Portability isn't as easy as our last basketball goal but this one is a much heavier construction. You can assemble this with common hand tools but a saw horse or two help out a lot. The instructions are mid level on ease of following, so I recommend that you identify everything before hand to save time and effort.

Great for price!
The only thing that would make this setup better is if the backboard was more sturdy. A bank shot from distance does cause the board to move quite a bit. Close shots and layups are not effected as much….however, for the price, it is much better than other models. The only way to sturdy up the backboard would be a larger more expensive system. I purchased this system for a 3rd grader with the idea that I’d get a bigger system in the future. It’s absolutely perfect for him. I do have to adjust the height for him as he is unable to reach and not strong enough to move it. I did fill it with water and I am able to move the system by myself.

Some re-assembly required
Yes, the parts came unlabeled, and with a "helpful" 12-year-old sidekick, it was an extra chore sorting nuts that came packaged with non-corresponding washers or bolts. The holes, especially at the bottom of the lower pole that goes into the base in some asinine fashion, need to be sanded. The directions state this, don't ignore them. What the directions DON'T state is how to fix your "not quite right" pole set up. Our poles were a tad off and the entire set was lopsided. since this was not noticeable until AFTER the 3-hour backboard process was done, we are screwed. I emailed the company for advice and he suggested this: "use a liberal amount of WD-40 on the joints where the poles meet. After doing that, take the poles out to a grassy area, hold the poles horizontally at shoulder-height, and drop them into the grass around 20-30 times". ?!?! I emailed back-"How can I do this with the (3-hour!) backboard attached?" NO answer. I started removing the supports for the backboard, and trying to lower the pole down to reach the backboard, the bottom of the plastic base cracked open and now I have no support once the poles are fixed. I have 30 years of experience following crappy directions, I am a pro at resurrecting projects, but it only took one (12-year old) person not to read the line about the dimples to make this project impossible.

Excellent Hoop
Excellent hoop! Very sturdy and plan on having for a very long time. Took quite a bit of time to put together as I did this solo. It's possible to do with 1 person but I wouldn't recommend as it took double the time in the manual. Very happy with the product, just wish our HOA wouldn't make us take our hoops inside garage when not in use. Th sturdiness of this hoop makes it a pain to do so. However the hoop is just way too nice to return.**we upgraded to a glow in dark net on ours, which is pictured**

Excellent Hoop Upgrade
Love this basketball goal! We bought it as a replacement for a 4-5 year old Lifetime goal that was weathered & a little smaller. After looking at all of the options & costs, decided to give this one a go based on reviews. Extremely happy with the polycarbonate backboard; solid play. Even though it's portable, it's heavy & easiest to move with 2 people once the base is filled. We used water & BaseGel (BaseGel Basketball Goal Portable Bases Polymer, 16-Ounce) which is working great. Assembly took a couple of hours. Having a second set of hands for some of the steps makes life significantly easier.
