Sauder Carson Forge Writing Desk, Washington Cherry finish

I am pleased with this desk so far. I just assembled it a few days ago, so can't speak to longevity. After searching around a good bit for a new desk (and getting one from a different company that was broken upon arrival), I was pleased to finally land on this desk. Opening the packaging, I could tell it was better quality than a good bit of "flatpack" furniture.The assembly was not easy. I did most of it by myself and, while I tend to enjoy assembling furniture, I found this one challenging. I had a particularly hard time getting the top onto the legs, and ended up doing it with the desk standing up - I sat under it and had to pull the top onto the legs to get it to work. Additionally, the holes on the small front door were placed so that, when assembled, the drawer would not close. I had to create new nail holes in order for it to work, and it's now at a slight angle because I wasn't perfectly aligned. Considering it was under $200, though, I'm pleased with the quality.The only real problem is that the handle on the keyboard tray is cracked a bit. It arrived with a bit of the dark finishing chipped and it was bent in a way that prevented it from fitting into the holes for it. While attempting to straighten it out so that it fit, it started to crack. It's now in place and fully functional, so I'm not too bothered by it, but that's why I've docked a star.The desk is really pretty, is a rather convincing faux-wood, and is a good size for a home office. I've even fit drawers underneath for some additional storage and, with the keyboard tray, it doesn't impact leg space. Will keep Sauder in mind for future purchases!

This is a perfect desk for small areas. I live in a condo and do not much room but still needed a desk when I work from home that would not take up too much space; this one is it. Now, there are others out there just as small, but I wanted a wooden one to match my room. Two things to consider; it is very heavy, when the UPS delivered it I was surprised at how heavy it was for such a small package, so be sure to get help moving it around and assembling it. Second, make sure you set aside several hours to assemble it. Now, I am pretty handy with tools and it still took me 2 1/2 hours setting it up. I recommend you make enough room to assemble, count every piece and go through through the instructions at least once to get an idea before starting it. They give you exactly enough parts and screws to assemble, no extras. This is very IMPORTANT because it comes wit a LOT of screws and many of them look similar, but they are not; if you make a mistake especially after gluing some parts, there is no going back! Take you time, have help and prepare and you will like the results...

The quality is nice, feels like it will last a long time.Gave it 4 stars, with some extra pre-drilled holes I would have given it 5. They could pre-drill some holes and allow the user to put the drawer on the right or the left side, but they don't.The pull out keyboard shelf has nice strong hinges, but then they are right where you want to put your wrist and they are lumpy so you can't put the keyboard or mouse pad on them either. I ended up putting two 4" foam stripes across it to make my own wrist pad.If they fixed those options and comfort issues, it would then be a 5 star product. Quality materials, its nice to assemble stuff that doesn't fall apart.

I love how this desk looks. But it isn't as sturdy as I expected it to be. I can wiggle it around just by typing on it! And It's not because of how we (my sister and I) assembled it. Most of the connections lock in place, and there's very little leeway to screw that up. Assembly took longer than I expected as well, and I am usually pretty quick (and enjoy) assembling furniture. Overall, I like it, but I don't love it. My desk faces out into the room, so I did end up reversing the "modesty panel" so the X faces outward. It looks plain and kind of weird facing inward. It's what drew me to this desk anyway, and then you can't see that X? The drawer on the right is pretty small and very shallow, so don't expect to store much in it. The keyboard tray is smooth and works well. Also, fair warning, this thing is SUPER heavy. Don't expect to move it on your own.

I have had this desk now for almost two years now and I use it daily as I work from home. I have to say this stands up to daily use and is quite nice looking in my home office. I also purchased the Sauder Carson Forge sofa table to use as a printer/file station along with two of the small book shelves. All together they make a very cohesive and inviting home office. I removed one star as the drawer front on the keyboard tray did break recently as I have rested my arms on it daily for 2 years, so I can't really blame the desk for that :-)

I really like the desk and it looks great. I gave it 4 stars b/c it feels a little wobbly. The top piece of the desk had a dent in it from where it fell during shipping. I called the company and they were amazing in getting a replacement piece sent out immediately. Great customer service.Cons: Some of the pieces were labeled wrong so b/4 using the glue to stick them together make sure they are the correct pieces. Also some of the pre-drilled holes are a little off so before putting screws in make sure they are aligned correctly or your drawer will be lopsided.

This desk is for my office. It took me quite a while to assemble "solo" but I finished the job. I did have to call the Sauder help line because the last piece was stubborn about meeting existing parts. They gave me a couple of suggestions to try and wallah...everything fell into place. Desk is very sturdy with a nice finish. Love the pull out drawer for my laptop and the drawer for hiding misc items! Top surface big enough for my printer, a lamp, a picture, and small flower. I really like and appreciate the quality of Sauder products. Thank you!

Although the desk took awhile to put together it is a nice desk for the price. My only complaint is the desk is damaged in 4 spots 3 of which are extremely visible. I don’t like walking in my office and seeing a damaged desk that I just purchased. I wish there was a way to get amazon to just send a replacement part.

had i known this was post and twist lock. i likely wouldn't have bought it. they are notorious for being out of alignment, and this one i received was no exception. it took me a little over four hours to put it together, and i'm a pretty handy kind a guy. the post holes for the desk top at one end, were 3/4" or 2cm out of alignment. i ended up using industrial carpenters glue to tack the top of this thing together. be aware the front face photo does not really show the true pattern of the desk top. granny's 1970's wood wall paneling comes to mind. no bother, a very large desk pad will fix all. i was under the impression, sauder was american, the stamps say otherwise . my point? don't do it. pay the extra dollar and get something that is truly northam and going to last. if your not going to be proud to give it to your kids, don't buy it.......j

It is for my home library, and gives the image that I want.

Absolutely beautiful. However, quite useless as is so wobbly. It is very heavy for such small legs. I guess it is just for looks. At least it looks nice
