Handbook of Church Discipline: A Right and Privilege of Every Church Member (Jay Adams Library)

The title "Church Discipline" is not really what this book is all about. It can be so easy for church leaders to use church discipline to control people and "unify" a congregation according to their particular way of thinking instead of with a true biblical perspective based on love. This is the best peacemaking and conflict resolution book available! It explains the whole process of peacemaking the most correctly and clearly. It is small and very concisely written and easy to understand.

This book should be mandatory in every seminary or pastoral seminar. I also read his original book over 10 years ago and bought this edition because the other one never made it back to me after I loaned it out. The corrections he made were outstanding and makes this book even more valuable.It is written to cover Matthew 18:15-17 and it is done both biblically and simple in its presentation. There is so much unbiblical understanding in this area that I would recommend every minister to read this book to see how their views lines up.The highest recommendation I can give is that I have used his material and his triangle of incremental steps in 3 churches and all have become healthier as a result. In one church there was a terrible problem with gossip that had taken over the atmosphere of the church. This teaching not only cleared the problem but no one was lost in the process.What I especially like is how the congregation/members are empowered and released to care for each other as they become proactive in creating and maintaining healthy,Godly and biblical realtionships.The most interesting possiblity is how a spouse can utilize this process to better their marriage.

Comprehensive reading!More biblical examples should’ve been used to help give examples of biblical discipline (ie. Philemon, David and Nathan, and others).Still, this book is recommended

Adams writes in a succinct style in all of his books, and personally, I find his get-to-the-point style helpful. Adams gives a thoroughly biblical consideration of church discipline. Even if you disagree with some of his conclusions, you’ll likely find this volume worthwhile. Also, the big font and thick paper make this a quick read.

The content of this book is excellent. The quality of the printing is hard to read, and scattered throughout, at least half a dozen pairs of pages were stuck together so that I had to separate them carefully without ripping them.

I just finished this book and I can't express how much I appreciate just how clear, concise and biblical this little book is. It's very easy to read, see how it lines up with Scripture, and practically apply in my life and church. Very well written!

This book contains sound biblical principles related to what is generally a misunderstood subject. The author writes in a "non-threatening" manner to explain what church discipline is and how to address problems within the church family in the biblical way, with a motive to achieve restoration, not punishment. The book is easily readable. If the course of action described here is followed, our churches would be much healthier!

This book arrived very quickly and in perfect condition. The cover was different, I received the newer cover. Jay Adams has devoted much of his life to teaching Biblical application to your life. I would and plan on acquiring the rest of the series.

Hard to disagree with him on much. His approach is church discipline 'from below' rather than 'from above' but still a helpful read.

This is a handbook and only a handbook. It is quite brief, yet quite helpful. It is to-the-point and biblical, yet without long illustrations. It's a good first-step, a decent how-to manual and pastoral resource.
