Regal Crown Hard Candy Rolls - Variety 2 Pack - Sour Cherry and Lemon - Individually Wrapped

The sour cherry candies I was hooked on for a year or two as a kid around 1960 popped into my mind out of nowhere, I looked them up on Amazon and, amazingly, there they were! I read the mixed reviews and ordered one each of the cherry and lemon to try. I have to agree with those who say they're very different now. The originals were larger, thicker, and had a more intense flavor. These are more like Life Savers, although a little better than that. It's a good example of how most things have been degraded over time, I won't be ordering more of them.

I ordered these because as a child in the 70s I loved the Regal Crown sour cherry and sour lemon candies. However, while these new candies are good - they aren't quite like I remember them. Perhaps my memory is off, but I remember the candies being thicker, brighter colored, and with a different flavor. For example, the cherry ones taste more like a Luden's cough drop to me than the more sour flavor that I remembered. So, I'm not sure they are truly using the same recipe / process. Not bad candy, but not what I remembered or was expecting.

The wrapper is the same but the taste is not. I really loved the original cherry ones, they were so good! These are much milder than the original. The cherry ones were a disappointment. The lemon ones were pretty good.

Too pricey. Cracker Barrel restaurant carries same for less
