Will this work with cloth diapers?

Yes, you'll need to buy two large wet bag liners (one in the pail while the other is on the wash). I bought one here from Kissa. White PUL elastic top. I love this pail! You don't need the plastic disposable liner refill it comes with.

How many gallons does this hold? I am trying to compare it with the Litter Champ which is a 4 gallon capacity.

This isn't an accurate measurement but I use a 13 gallon trash bag in mine and the bag is pretty full when removed... probably 4-6 gallons.

The diaper pail smells terrible!! even when its shut, it has a lingering smell and when you open the inlet to throw a diaper in, it has a strong whiff

I agree. I put a stickup in mine which helped a little but yeah, it does not hide smell.

How good is this at controlling orders?

This is not good at controlling odors at all. Once my son started solids this pail did nothing to contain the smell.
