Backyard Safari Mini Scoop Net

It’s nice, there’s other pieces that match, have given it as bday gift many times and kids love it… not built to ladt

We love this net for our 18 month old. He's much too young to use it to catch bugs, but he loves collecting rocks in it, and with its short handle, it's much safer for him to play with / carry around than a normal length scoop net. We actually got him this because he loved his older cousin's net so much, but it was far too long for him to handle. Obviously, this is not a toy to leave an 18 month old unattended with. We supervise him closely as he uses it.I do not think this net would be appropriate for an older (6+) child, as the handle is so short, that it doesn't really work well as a bug catching net. The handles on those are long (or extendable) for a reason. This is a great "pretend" bug catching scoop for a beginner.

This item arrived broken but amazon is replacing it. The product seems nice but the handle is not glued on very well so I highly recommend that you add some superglue where the handle meets the net to add some reinforcement before your child take it out. I can see the head coming off the first time your child catches a butterfly against the ground.

Nice toy. I purchased this to give as a gift with the cargo vest and hat. The net was actually larger in diameter than I was expecting, which was good. Other than the size, the net was basically what I was expecting and I think the 6 year old recipient will love it!

Believe it or not, we have been using this to catch and kill carpenter bees. We have hanging traps and have sprayed. I got so mad one day and thought about a butterfly net, ordered this and had caught and killed 6 within minutes!Hopefully saving the wood on my storage building!

The handle is short, but it's pretty solid and the net is good quality. It works nicely. My only complaint is the handle is only 12 inches from hoop to the end of the hand grip.

This is a toy, and not good for any other use, though it's better than nothing if you really want to catch a flying bug.It has a diameter the size of a dessert plate. The net is thin and the holes are kind of not that small - sometimes bugs get back out. The net is also fairly shallow - if you swoosh it at a bug, it can just fly out the front again. The net is not deep enough to hold the bug. Also, it is made entirely of different kinds of not-too-sturdy plastic. One good smack at a bug on the ground, and I think the handle will snap off from the hoop.No one really collects bugs anymore, and this was the best I could find, but I got this for catching insects for baby birds who fall from their nests every year near my home. It is not exactly what I was hoping for in terms of really helping.- - - - - - - - - - - -EDIT: A critic below says this review is unhelpful because this is a toy. My response: I needed to catch bugs to feed a baby bird and this "bug catching net" did not catch them. That is why I'm complaining, and I think it is very fair. You watch a baby bird starve and then get back to me with your ideas about being helpful.

This was something of the best money I've ever spent on Amazon. We recently got a new foster dog after being dogless for months & apparently wed had an influx of frogs in the backyard. I have been catching frogs left & right with this so I can drop them over the concrete privacy wall before I take her out in the evenings.

Quality was just fine. I liked that it would float in water but found same thing another store for half the price.
