Q: Does the clamp leave marks in the pencil?

No the clamp does not leave marks on the pencil. It is very gentle. I am using it as a pencil sharpener in a school classroom and have given up on every other type of pencil sharpener. This sharpener is perfection in the point it can make.

Q: does this come packed in a Caran d'Ache tin? i found it on another site its packaged in a "special tin" just curious if amazon sends it the same way

I don't recall a tin. Love the sharpener though. Keep in mind that per the instructions, one should only sharpen 100% graphite pencils in the sharpener. I didn't know that when I bought it. I had to keep my old sharpeners for colored pencils.

Q: Does the sharpner require mounting to function properly? If mounting is needed can it be clamped or does it have to be screw mounted?

You do not have to mount it, but you have to hold the sharpener down with your other hand to sharpen the pencil. It comes with a clamp like a vice to mount on a table.
