For those of you who do not like these pencils, can you recommend some that you like better?

Prang makes fantastic pencils IF you get the right ones. I have recently discovered that there is a BIG difference between the 3.0 mm and the 3.3 mm pencils as far as color and performance is concerned. Although they look pretty much the same, the 3.3 mm pencils (at least in the 24 and 50 count sets) have the color names printed on the barrel and they are amazing to worth with. Although the 3.0 and the 3.3 are both very hard pencils (great for detail work), the 3.3 are highly pigmented; it takes very little effort to get rich, vibrant color out of them. The 3.0 colors are on the opposite end of the quality scale:  very muted; you have to go over and over and over the same spot just to get any worthwhile color our of them. As long as you read the description carefully and get the 3.3 mm pencils (don't just look at the color of the box), you'll do fine.

soft or hard tip? hard tips barely leave any color behind, i need something soft and bold, is this what im looking for?

the color pencils you want for drawing over marker is Derwent's "Inktense" pencils.  These are soft, very bold and water soluble yet once they dry they become permanent. They are specifically designed to use in cartooning and with copic markers.  They aren't cheap but they are worth every penny.  You can hand color lines and layer; which lays down smoothly.  Most of the color are fairly bright and bold when first layed down but don't worry if the color doesn't seem to be as bright at first as you want.  Just go over it with a lightly dampened paint brush and the colors come to life!  I'm a printmaker and graphic designer and I love love love these pencils for hand coloring my woodcut prints!  I have a tin of 24 for my studio and a pencil rollup with 12 plus some singles I purchased at a local Dick Blick store. Aaron Bros carries some small sets too. Question 3

Does this set come with any flesh tones?

It comes with a peach and a light peach which I use for skin tones.  A very lightly used light brown works well for shading as well as the regular peach. It really depends on which skin tone you are trying to get.   I love Prang pencils.

Question 4

Why are these described to be "Thick Core", "3mm" when the 48count "regular core" set is also "3mm"?

I hadn't noticed,but they are a good set. I've had two sets and bought a set for my granddaughter. I'm not that thrilled with the box, but that wasn't your question. Most colored pencils don't have a 3mm core.
