Too expensive, get the i7+ instead
**Update**After a week of use, the room mapping (aka, SmartMaps) feature is now available on my iRobot app. This is very odd, I don't know why it wasn't available upon setup, but now it is. I have since upgraded this review from 3 to 4 stars. It is not a full 5 stars only because I am still somewhat skeptical. It's the same price as the i7+ and it has all the same features of the i7+ . . . so why does the i6+ exist!? What is the justification to create a whole new model if it's exactly the same as the other model? Will it be less reliable? Fortunately, I have both the i6+ and the i7+, so I will let you know as soon as I find out!!*Here is my original review*Bottom line, the i6+ has all the same features as the i7+, except that it can't map a room. The only thing "smart" about the i6+ is that you can integrate it with your smart home, but there are much cheaper Roombas that have this feature. In fact, I own a Roomba 960R, and the i6+ seems to look/operate exactly the same. The only difference is that the i6+ comes with the Automatic dirt disposal feature offered by the i7+ and i9+. But without the SmartMaps feature, it just cleans the entire floor until it decides it's done, and it wanders around forever until it can find 'home'.SmartMaps is a neat feature which allows the robot to map your home. Once mapped, you can open the app and divide the map into rooms. Then you can say "ok google, clean the living room/dining room/kitchen/basement/whatever", and the robot magically turns on and heads precisely to the room desigated and cleans ONLY that room, then returns home. You can also set a schedule (e.g. clean the kitchen M/W/F, and the living room T/Th, basement every sat and dining room every sun). My 960R and my i6+ don't have this SmartMaps feature, so I consider them 'dumb' (even though they are advertised as 'smart').I personally think that the i7+ is overpriced, even with the SmartMaps feature, but it is a very useful feature nonetheless. The fact that the i6+ is the same price (without SmartMaps) is ridiculous. The SmartMaps feature should make it at least $100 less than the i7+, if not more. Also: note that these come with vacuum cleaner bags in the base unit (just like your old-school vacuum cleaner). Keep this in mind, you will have a 'subscription fee' in the form of purchasing new bags in order to continue to use this thing.

WARNING - Read Before Buying Open-Box or Used
Hi fellow shoppers!I wanted to provide a WARNING to those who are considering purchasing any iRobot/Roomba product in Canada. The long and short of this warning is that Roomba does not offer a warranty on any device that has been registered to another buyer (ie. if they have installed the iRobot on their mobile device - that qualifies as a previous owner). If you are not registered as the original owner, then you cannot benefit from exchange if you have received a defective model (like we did) or servicing if you run into issues. If you would like the full rundown of my review, feel free to continue reading. Otherwise, purchase at your own risk and I wish you many happy days with Roomba!---Like many others, I wanted to have the benefits of the Roomba at half the price.Do I wait for Prime Days? Black Friday? The house wasn't getting any cleaner (2 dogs, 2 cats and an 18 month old). The opportunity arose to purchase a "like-new" condition Roomba at a fraction of the original cost. After doing my homework on the functionality of the device, I decided to pay the $700+ and take the risk of a few scratches on the surface of the robot. Yay!!!! Roomba to the cleaning rescue!Upon installing and connecting the Roomba to the mobile app, I was met with a less than thrilling message from the robot when I turned it on and pressed "Clean":"Issue, Undocking". Hmmm.... I then moved the Roomba off the dock and placed it on an open floor area, pressed "clean" again and heard another warning "Dropoff Detected".Nowhere in the 10 x 12 foot room was there any dropoff or ledge high enough to cause that issue, so I went to iRobot online help forums to troubleshoot the issue. After a dozen failed attempts I decided to call the support line today. An enthusiastic (and VERY scripted) staff member was kind enough to help diagnose the issue. Here is what I experienced and learned from that call:1.) From the onset, I was told that the devices serial number was registered to another account - that was assumed as it was an open box.As it was already registered once (and returned - probably for the same reasons for my call), it voided any warranty. However, I was told I was still entitled to troubleshooting support, which is always free for any Roomba owner (first, second or eighth hand). Hmmm.... not thrilled about the void warranty, but I can't argue with policy.2.) After troubleshooting the issue with her for over 20 minutes, she indicated that the robot would need servicing.3.) She mentioned with services, even if you aren't the original owner, the part is warrantied for 6 months and if it were to fail again a full replacement robot would be issued. Servicing was offered at roughly $130 and included shipping to/from the servicing centre and parts and labour.4.) After doing the math, I thought: Yeah, I'm willing to take that risk for a total of $830 on a Roomba that would then be covered for 6-month (only 6 months less than a new machine).5.) I confirmed with her that I'd like to consider the servicing option and qualified if the servicing cost was in USD or CAD.... that's when she came back to say that it was in USD because iRobot does NOT OFFER SERVICING TO CANADIANS! Uhh Whhhat????6.) I thought - I've spent money and time now for 45 minutes on the phone (with this albeit patient person) to find out that there is no warranty coverage, no service option and no other option other than to return it to Amazon - thank goodness for the return option and window still being open.So essentially, BUYER BEWARE if you are considering purchasing a used Roomba.I'm going to assume that is why the price drops substantially versus a new one, as you are waiving the 1-year warranty which, for Canadians offers buyer protection. If this review helped you in your decision making to pass on the Roomba (Used or New) please let me know by clicking "Helpful"I figure if this is a big enough deal, maybe iRobot will value the Canadian servicing benefits and assist those who would like to benefit from the technology regardless of “like new” or new condition.

This is not your father's Roomba
I bought my first Roomba vacuum more than 10 years back. I loved the technology, but it had its limitations, so I was eager to try the current generation. The first image shows my old (10-12 years) Roomba 500 (?) series vacuum (it’s the one with the fun demo mode, if that helps nail it down) sitting alongside the contemporary Roomba i6+ (6550) vacuum. The bottom line is that with the old Roomba my wife thought it was less work to do the vacuuming entirely herself than to have to touch-up after the Roomba cleaned. With the new Roomba, she is happy to only have to occasionally break out the Swifter out to clean corners and other problem spots. You can read more about the images below, but here’s my summary of the current generation Roomba vs. my older model:1) Quieter, more vacuuming power.2) No more having to manually empty the Roomba dust bin!3) No more having to de-fiber and de-fur the (bristle-style) brush!4) The rectangular grid cleaning and far more precise wall-following are a vast improvement over the bounce-along-the-wall and random-walk of the older Roomba. (The new Roomba still can’t quite get into the tightest corners, but between the edge brush and the increased suction, it did a credible job. I think iRobit has an upgraded model that addresses this).5) We were totally blown away when the new Roomba emptied it’s dust bin and went right back to cleaning!***Update***6) Over the holidays, I finally found the time to use the mapping feature. It was easy to figure out and powerful, which left me kicking myself for not setting it up right away. You can even send the Roomba out in reconnaissance mode to improve the map when no vacuuming is required, so it doesn't take much time to create a map. The way it works is that Roomba builds a map of your house based on all the locations it has visited. Then you edit the map to place room dividers, name the rooms, and then you can choose which rooms to vacuum by name. Of course, you can 'select all.' There are also exclusions zones that you can set up (say, near a mess of cords) as well as high traffic zones. The last photo shows the status when I just wanted to vacuum the kitchen. It's an absolute hoot to watch Roomba travel to a specific area of the house to vacuum.***End Update***The first image also shows what for me is a game-changer: The tower on the i6+ dock extracts and stores the dirt from the Roomba. No more emptying the gross dust compartment and dealing with the associated filter! Just a typical vacuum bag that needs to be thrown out and replaced approximately every 60 days. The second image shows the underside of both Roombas. Physically, not much change, though some of the sensors look a bit different. That said, the two big things to notice are:1) The 500 series lower brush (the brush is approximately 2/3rds from the top of the image, just above the bottom of the red frame) is, as always, clogged with carpet fibers and dog hair. The lower “brush” (the bright green paddle with v-shaped contours) on the i6+ is now a silicon (or something like that) paddle. So no more picking fiber and fur out of the brush!2) You can see the dust compartment at the bottom of both Roombas. The dust compartment of the old Roomba swung out and you had to (awkwardly) dump it. There was also a filter that you had to maintain. The dust compartment of the new Roomba empties into the tower. iRobot says that approximately every 60 days you’ll have to throw out the full dust bag from the tower and replace it with a new one.

Wondering why the i6+ model isn't listed on the Roomba website? (UPDATED)
I've unboxed my "Super Prime Day" deal, but I haven't actually done anything with it yet. But, if like me, you were wondering why the official Roomba site doesn't list the i6+ model, it appears to be the i7+ model without the extra bag or brushes. I will update my review once I've tried the product.UPDATE:I might be in love.I'm the absolute antithesis of an "early adopter", so it should come as no surprise that this is my first robot vacuum, but I'm as excited about this purchase as I was by my first PC over 25 years ago! I downloaded the app to my iPhone 7, and have been able to navigate the application without any difficulty.I was initially disappointed that the Amazon exclusive i6+ didn't include the extra bags, filters and virtual wall barrier that the i7+ comes with, but truth be told, the ability to add "no go zones" to the mapping pretty much make the virtual wall obsolete - and it doesn't require batteries! It's been fascinating watching the Roomba mapping our rooms, and with every subsequent cleaning, it seems to learn how to navigate around furniture more efficiently. Like virtually every online reviewer I've seen, I also have a Dyson cordless - which I'm very happy with. But, at least for me, the Roomba i6+ picked up a shocking amount of pet hair - even after I'd vacuumed with the Dyson! (To be fair, we have a Border Collie, a Maine Coon Cat and a Siberian Forest Cat - so hair and grit are an ongoing challenge.) I'm guessing the Roomba is a little more thorough navigating under the furniture.I bought mine during Prime Days, so I did get a good deal, but I think I'd still be equally impressed had I paid full price.

Very glitchy and justs rolls hair up
Update - Returning this product. It hasn't been working for a while. It got to the point that I could only run it manually and now it doesn nothing and keeps saying "could not start". Tired of trying to find HOW TO's!! It's supposed to clean my place and SVAE me time. I'm getting NONE of that.SO DISSAPOITNED!!!!Original Review: This machine seemed amazing for the first week. Then after it finally finished the mapping, I set up scheduled cleanings. Suddenly they malfunctioned and I didn't know why. The machine had deleted the map, not sure how. Then I ran the full clean manually again to create a map. Map was back and I went in to set up the rooms again but they were already there. Hmmmm....BUT the scheduled cleaning failed again with the error above. There is never an explanation with the error.ALSO considering all the online reviews I watched saying the Roomba is the best for deep cleaning and carpets which is the reason I chose the high-end Roomba over another brand....per the photo above I feel it's not doing a good job never mind a great job. Only the third full cleaning in my place and it wasn't picking up the hair....some yes but rolling and moving a lot of it around. For a product that is $1149 + tax this should work AMAZINGLY and without headache!!!! Quite disappointed! I'm trying to work out the glitches but if I don't see improvement, I'm sending it back!!I will update my review in a 2- 3 weeks. I was so excited about this...
